Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The student attempts to cover the main features of the line graph illustrating tourist arrivals on a Caribbean island from 2010 to 2017. An overview is provided at the end, pointing out the general upward trend and final total of 3.5 million visitors. However, there are several inaccuracies in the data reported compared to the source chart, such as stating that visitors staying on cruise ships reached '1.7 million till 2017' (the actual figure is 2 million) and misreporting details for island stayers and totals. Furthermore, some data points are omitted or described vaguely. Because of these factual inaccuracies and the lack of a clear, dedicated introductory overview paragraph, the response meets the criteria for Band 5.0.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The response is organised into a series of short paragraphs, but the logical progression is hindered by poor paragraphing and a lack of proper visual separation. The introduction is merged into a single sentence without a clear overarching overview at the beginning. Cohesive devices are repetitive and basic (e.g., 'and then', 'then agained'), leading to a mechanical feel. Reference pronouns are occasionally unclear, and there is no proper separation between body paragraphs and the concluding summary, which directly affects the overall logical flow and earns a Band 5.0.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is quite basic and repetitive ('incresed', 'decreased', 'rose up', 'remained', 'reached'). There are numerous spelling errors throughout the text, including 'stying' instead of staying, 'incresed', 'agiin', and 'gained'. Less common lexical items are attempted with low accuracy or unnatural collocation (e.g., 'people movement', 'at an increasing level'). While the general meaning can be understood, the frequent lexical errors and limited range restrict the score to Band 5.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but many sentences contain fundamental grammatical errors and punctuation flaws. Examples include missing articles ('represents that how many visitors', 'total number of visitors were gone up'), incorrect verb forms ('remained at this level untill reached at'), and run-on sentences with poor punctuation ('2015.then agained slightly dropped'). Frequent structural errors cause some difficulty for the reader, aligning the response with Band 5.0 descriptors.
