Student answer (Band 5.0)
This line graph shows the number of tourist visiting a particular Caribbean island between 2010 and 2017. We are selecting the information or main feature and making the comparisons. We have two types of visitors.
Firstly, the visitors in cruise ships is less then 0.5 in 2010 or gradually increase to its peak point 2 in 2017. This shows the visitors interest in cruise ships year by year.
Secondly, the trend of staying in island is gradually increase after 2011 and then decrease in 2016 or get its position back in 2017. But most of the people want to spend time on the island lying directly towards the rays of sun.
Overall, the cruise ships rapidly increase or staying on island gradually increase and the tourists of Caribbean island between the 2010 and 2017 gradually increase year by year. The number of visitors in 2010 is 1 million or the peak of the Caribbean island is about 3.5 millions people in the year of 2017.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The student attempts to address the prompt by reporting figures and trends from the graph, such as the overall rise from 1 million in 2010 to 3.5 million in 2017. However, the response includes inappropriate meta-language in the introduction ('We are selecting the information or main feature...'), which reads like a classroom exercise rather than a formal report. Furthermore, some data points are inaccurate or poorly described, such as claiming visitors on cruise ships were 'less then 0.5 in 2010' when the exact figure was 0.25 million, and including subjective, non-academic commentary ('most of the people want to spend time on the island lying directly towards the rays of sun'). While an overview is provided at the end, the task is only partially covered in an academic sense, aligning with a Band 5.0.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The response is divided into four short paragraphs, attempting a traditional structure with an introduction, body paragraphs for separate trends, and an overall summary. However, cohesive devices are weak, repetitive, and mechanical (using 'Firstly', 'Secondly', and 'Overall'). Referencing and transitions between sentences are sometimes awkward, such as the abrupt shift in the second body paragraph ('But most of the people want to spend time...'). Paragraphing is present, but logical progression is disrupted by mechanical transitions and informal framing. This level of organization reflects a Band 5.0.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is very basic and repetitive, heavily relying on words like 'increase', 'visitors', and 'trend'. There are notable word choice and phrasing issues, such as 'tourist visiting' (plural agreement error), 'visitors in cruise ships' instead of 'on', and 'staying in island' instead of 'on the island'. Less common vocabulary is attempted with limited success or awkward collocation, such as 'peak point'. Although the general meaning is communicated, the lexical range is narrow and repetitive, fitting the Band 5.0 descriptors.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, but grammatical control is weak throughout. There are frequent errors in tense usage, prepositions, and conjunctions, such as 'is less then 0.5 in 2010 or gradually increase' (tense inconsistency and spelling of 'than'), 'is gradually increase after 2011 and then decrease... or get its position back', and '1 million or the peak... is about 3.5 millions' (unnecessary plural 'millions'). Punctuation and sentence boundaries are also affected by run-on structures using 'or' instead of proper clauses. These frequent errors cause some difficulty for the reader, matching Band 5.0.
