Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response covers the main features of the graph, identifying the upward trend in total visitors, the dominance of land-based tourists initially, and the eventual rise of cruise ship visitors. Key data points are cited, such as the starting total of 1 million, the plateau at 2.75 million in 2016, and the peak of 3.5 million in 2017. However, the response falls short of the 150-word minimum length requirement, containing only 143 words. This under-length impacts the full development of ideas, placing the response at a Band 5.5.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is divided into an introduction and a body section, but the formatting is unconventional, using labels like 'Introduct:' and 'Overview:-' rather than standard paragraphing. Furthermore, the final sentence is fragmented and abruptly cut off ('and. The No. optng to visit...'). While there is a logical progression attempting to describe the data chronologically, the lack of clean paragraph structure and faulty cohesion in the latter part of the text lower the score for this criterion.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The student attempts some less common vocabulary, such as 'plateaued', 'soaring dramatically', and 'fluctuated'. However, there are numerous spelling errors and typos throughout the text, including 'dispresents' (depicts), 'vistors' / 'vators' (visitors), 'destiontain' (destination), 'cruisel' (cruise), 'yers' (years), 'milion' / 'milions' (million), 'increse' (increase), 'blw' (between), 'darematically' (dramatically), 'resident' (residents), and 'optng' (opting). These persistent lexical errors and inaccuracies restrict the score to Band 5.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, including relative clauses and adverbial phrases. However, grammatical accuracy is weak due to numerous errors, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('most resident on the Island') and sentence boundary errors, including a sentence fragment ending the response. Punctuation is also erratic. While some simple sentences are correct, the frequency of basic errors impacts readability.
