Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The student attempts to address the task by describing the main trends in the line graph, noting the overall upward movement of total visitors and outlining the two categories (cruise ships and island stay). However, there are notable inaccuracies in reading the data. For example, the student states that the proportion of visitors staying on the island remained around 0.7 million and that visitors staying on cruise ships showed a 'noticeable slightly decline during the initial period', which misinterprets several data points. While an overview is attempted, key features such as the peak of 3.5 million in total visitors in 2017 are somewhat buried under inaccurate data descriptions. Therefore, the response fulfills the basic requirements of summarising the chart, but falls short of a higher band due to data misinterpretation and underdeveloped comparative analysis.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The text is organized into four paragraphs, following a logical introduction, overview, and body paragraph structure. However, the progression within paragraphs is frequently disrupted by awkward referencing and mechanical cohesive devices. For instance, transitional phrases like 'Finally, in 2017, people had started to stay their around 1.5 million' and 'In contrast, the participants of tourists staying on cruise ships' display faulty cohesion and unclear pronoun or subject referencing. Paragraphing is attempted, but the internal logical flow is hindered by abrupt shifts and repetitive phrasing, placing the response firmly at band 5.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The student uses a limited and repetitive range of vocabulary. There are frequent word choice errors, non-standard collocations, and spelling mistakes throughout the text, such as 'proportation' instead of 'proportion', 'constanted' instead of 'remained constant', and 'dramitically plunged'. Phrases like 'people would like to stay on island' and 'participants of tourists' are unnatural in an academic context. While the vocabulary is adequate to convey a basic sense of the graph's contents, the high frequency of lexical inaccuracies impedes natural communication and limits the score to band 5.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but control over grammar is weak. There are frequent grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('the number of visitors visit', 'tourists visited at island'), incorrect prepositions ('staying at island', 'stay their'), and tense inconsistencies. Many complex structures are faulty or awkward. These frequent errors cause some difficulty for the reader and demonstrate limited control over grammatical accuracy, aligning with the band 5 descriptors.
