Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response attempts to address the task by reporting overall figures and some specific data points for visitors staying on the island and on cruise ships between 2010 and 2017. However, the information presented contains several inaccuracies when compared with the visual data. For instance, the starting and ending figures for cruise ships (reported as 0.3 million and 2 lacs) and island visitors diverge from the chart. Furthermore, there is no clear overview provided at the beginning or end of the report, which is essential for Band 6 and above. The ideas are somewhat limited and under-developed, resulting in a score of 5.0.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The text is divided into three brief paragraphs, but the logical progression is weak. The opening introduction fails to set out a clear overview of the main trends. Cohesive devices are either missing or used inappropriately, such as 'Besides that' and 'In this whole time spam' (which also contains a typo). Referencing is sometimes unclear, and the mechanical flow hinders readability. Paragraphing is attempted, but overall the structure lacks clear cohesion, making a Band 5.0 appropriate.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive throughout the response. Phrases like 'showing their interest', 'rises gradually', and 'ups and downs' demonstrate a limited range. There are also noticeable lexical errors and awkward collocations, such as 'stopped at 20 lacs visitors' and 'tourism remaind popular'. The lexical resource is minimally adequate to convey a simple message, but frequent inaccuracies and lack of sophisticated terms restrict the score to 5.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response displays a very limited range of sentence structures, relying mostly on simple sentences with frequent grammatical errors. Examples of errors include subject-verb agreement issues like 'The numbers of tourists are rises', tense inconsistencies ('used to traveled', 'remaind'), and awkward phrasing ('Which was a increase in the their presence'). Complex structures are rarely attempted and when used, they contain errors. These persistent mistakes cause some difficulty for the reader, placing the grammar at a Band 5.0.
