Student answer (Band 6.0)
The line graph compares the amount of tourists visiting a specific Caribean island from 2010 to 2017.
Overall, the numbers of visiters staying on island were initially higher than those staying on the cruise but over time latter soared higher.
Initially, the amount of tourists staying on the island were higher in 2010 with 0.75 million stablizing it till 2011. Followed by a substantial hike in 2012 with 1.25 million and sustained the number of 1.5 million visiters in 2013, 2014 and 2015. 2016 registered a dip in tourist number with only 1.25 million before escalating again to 1.5 million in 2017.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response successfully covers all parts of the task by reporting the main features, trends, and comparisons of the data. You provided an overview noting the shift between tourists staying on the island versus those on cruise ships, and you accurately tracked the trajectory of each category from 2010 to 2017. For instance, you correctly noted that island-based tourists were initially higher at 0.75 million, while cruise visitors started at 0.25 million before ultimately rising to 2 million. Although minor details like exact figures could be integrated even more fluidly, all key features are appropriately highlighted and supported with correct data points from the visual source. This performance aligns comfortably with the Band 7 level descriptors.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
Your essay demonstrates a clear logical organisation and progression throughout. The response is divided into an introduction, an overall summary paragraph, and separate body paragraphs for each category of tourist, which helps the reader follow your analysis easily. Cohesive devices are employed adequately, such as 'Initially', 'Although', and 'followed by', though there are some minor mechanical links or awkward transitions (e.g., 'Followed by a substantial hike'). Paragraphing is used appropriately to structure the comparison. However, occasional referencing could be smoother to elevate the cohesion to a higher band. Overall, the structural flow is clear and meets Band 7 standards.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to allow some flexibility and precision in describing trends, using terms such as 'stablizing', 'substantial hike', 'dip', and 'escalating'. However, there are some noticeable spelling and word choice inaccuracies throughout the text. For example, 'Caribean' is misspelled, 'amount of tourists' is used instead of 'number of tourists' (since tourists are countable), and 'visiters' contains a spelling error. Furthermore, words like 'latter' in the overview lack a clear, precise antecedent structure. Because these lexical errors do not impede communication but limit precision, the writing fits the Band 6 descriptor.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You make an attempt at using a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, incorporating subordinate clauses like 'Although visitors staying on the cruise started with just 0.25 million visitors yet it increased...'. However, this specific sentence contains a redundancy error by combining 'Although' and 'yet' together. There are also subject-verb agreement errors, such as 'the amount of tourists staying on the island were higher' (should be 'was higher' or 'number... was'). While there are frequent simple sentences and some error-free clauses, the grammatical slips in complex structures prevent the score from reaching a higher band. Your control is consistent with Band 6.
