Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers all parts of the task by reporting the main trends and making comparisons between the categories. An overview is provided at the end, which captures the general patterns of fluctuation and growth. However, some of the specific figures and dates are slightly imprecise or awkward, such as stating that visitor numbers 'beggins in 2010 with 0.3 million' when the chart shows 0.25 million, and minor data points are glossed over. Nevertheless, the main features of the graph are successfully identified and presented, fulfilling the core requirements of Task 1.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The report has a recognizable overall structure with an introduction, body paragraphs divided by categories, and a concluding overview. However, the logical progression is hindered by awkward transitions and poor paragraph cohesion. Phrases like 'To start with, staying on cruise ship, it beggins...' lack smooth grammatical linkage. Cohesive devices are used mechanically and referencing is sometimes unclear, particularly in the third paragraph where 'total, it rise' disrupts the flow. Paragraphing is attempted but internal cohesion within sentences needs refinement.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, allowing the student to describe trends using words like 'fluctuation', 'increased', and 'stable'. However, there are frequent spelling errors ('beggins', 'drametically', 'fructualtion', 'rapidelly', 'agan') and word-form inaccuracies ('fructualtion' instead of fluctuation). Attempts at less common vocabulary are marred by these mechanical errors and awkward collocations. The range of vocabulary is sufficient to convey the basic message, but lexical control is weak.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, but grammatical control is inconsistent. There are frequent errors in subject-verb agreement and tense consistency, such as 'The given line chart illustrate' instead of 'illustrates' and 'it rise' instead of 'rose'. Punctuation is also problematic, with misplaced commas and missing periods. Complex structures are often faulty, leading to sentences that require effort from the reader to parse, though the overall meaning remains generally clear.
