Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The student attempts to summarise the main features of the graph, identifying the upward trend of total visitors and outlining the categories. However, there are notable data inaccuracies and misreadings of the timeline. For instance, the student refers to the year 2007, which does not appear on the chart (the data starts in 2010), and mentions that figures dropped in 2016 before climbing, whereas the total stayed flat and cruise ship numbers rose steadily. Furthermore, the response is incomplete, cutting off mid-sentence at the end. While an overview is present, the inaccuracies and incomplete nature of the response limit its effectiveness, corresponding to Band 5.0.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The text is organised into introductory, overview, and body paragraphs, providing a basic framework for the report. However, logical progression is hindered by confusing temporal references and abrupt shifts between categories. Cohesive devices are used mechanically (e.g., 'Furthermore', 'However'), and referencing is sometimes unclear, such as pronouns or transitions that do not connect ideas smoothly. Paragraphing is attempted, but the final paragraph is incomplete and trails off without a proper conclusion. Overall, the structural arrangement shows some organisation but lacks clear progression and control, fitting Band 5.0.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The student uses an adequate basic vocabulary to discuss trends, such as 'upward trend', 'rapidly', and 'visitors'. However, there are frequent lexical errors and awkward word choices, such as 'visitors strenght' instead of 'visitor strength' or numbers, 'increaded' (spelling error), and 'drepped' instead of 'dropped'. Less common vocabulary is attempted with limited success and noticeable inaccuracies that occasionally cause confusion for the reader. These limitations place the lexical resource at Band 5.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but control over grammar is weak. There are frequent errors in verb tense and agreement, such as 'The graph illustrate' instead of 'illustrates', and awkward phrasing like 'the tourists stayed on island were'. Punctuation and preposition usage are also inconsistent. These frequent errors cause some difficulty for the reader and prevent the text from achieving a higher band, aligning well with the Band 5.0 descriptors.
