Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The student covers all parts of the task well by reporting the main features, selecting relevant data points, and making appropriate comparisons between visitors staying on cruise ships and those staying on the island. An overview is successfully presented in the second paragraph, highlighting the overall upward trajectory from 1 million to 3.5 million visitors. Key data points such as the initial figures in 2010 and the final statistics in 2017 are accurately cited. Although some minor details are described rather densely, the overarching trends are clearly communicated, fulfilling the requirements for Band 7.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The response has a clear overall progression and logical organization, with information grouped into an introduction, overview, and two body paragraphs detailing the temporal changes. Cohesive devices such as 'Furthermore', 'Moreover', and 'simultaneously' are utilized, though certain transitions are slightly mechanical or repetitive in structure (e.g., 'Firstly, it can be noticed here that...'). Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate different periods of time. Referencing is generally clear, contributing to an easy-to-follow flow throughout the essay, aligning well with the descriptors for Band 6.5 or a solid 6.0.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common lexical items such as 'fluctuated', 'substantially' (implied via massively upwards), and 'constituting'. However, there are noticeable word choice and collocation inaccuracies, such as 'voyagers going to' instead of 'tourists visiting', 'remained same' instead of 'remained the same', and 'felt down' instead of 'fell'. While these minor lexical errors do not impede communication, they restrict the score to Band 6.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The writer employs a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, incorporating relative clauses and time-dependent subordinate clauses (e.g., 'the number of visitors who stayed on the island remained same'). However, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly missing articles ('stayed on cruise' instead of 'stayed on a cruise'), tense inconsistencies, and awkward phrasing such as 'where only the visitors who stayed on cruise ships their number rose up'. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding the data, they occur frequently enough to prevent the score from reaching Band 6.5.
