Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The student attempts to address the prompt by reporting figures for visitors staying on cruise ships, on the island, and the total between 2010 and 2017. However, there are notable inaccuracies in reading the data from the graph. For instance, the text states that in 2017 there are '2 million tourist who stayed on Island', whereas the graph shows 1.5 million. Furthermore, the overview paragraph fails to clearly summarize the main trends, offering a confusing and repetitive sentence instead of highlighting key changes over the period. While some main features are captured, the data inaccuracies and weak overview limit the task achievement to a Band 5.5.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The response is divided into paragraphs, which helps give it a structured appearance, and chronological transitions like 'between 2010 to 2012' and 'Secondly' are attempted. However, the logical progression is frequently hindered by awkward phrasing and mechanical cohesion. The second paragraph abruptly transitions between categories without clear links, and referencing is sometimes unclear, such as 'which figures around 0.3 million'. The conclusion paragraph ('In the end...') attempts to summarize the totals but contains confusing and repetitive language. Overall, the organization shows some basic structure but lacks smooth progression, fitting the Band 5.5 descriptors well.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The student uses a limited range of vocabulary with frequent errors in word choice and collocation. Examples include 'tourist visitors' instead of tourist arrivals, 'held up to 1illion', and 'went to sky high level'. Spelling errors also appear, such as 'repidly' for rapidly and 'in decreased' instead of it decreased. While the vocabulary is minimally adequate to convey basic data points, the frequent inaccuracies and lack of precise, flexible terminology restrict the lexical score to a Band 5.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but grammatical accuracy is quite low throughout the text. There are frequent errors in subject-verb agreement and article usage, such as 'information about number of tourist visitors in caribbean island', 'the number of visitors who stayed in cruise ships were fluctuating' (where 'was' is required), and 'there are total 1 million visitors'. Punctuation is also flawed, seen in comma splices like 'The tourist visitors on island is went to sky high level, to 3.5 million'. These frequent errors cause occasional difficulty for the reader, aligning with Band 5.0.
