The graph illustrates the tourists number, those who have visited a particular Caribbean island in the year from 2010 to 2017.

Overall, the total number of visitors either staying on cruise ships or on island, there is a substantial increase from 2010 to 2017 as shown in the graph, from 1 million to a frequent shift in value, facing a bit decline in 2016, but again reached upto approximately 3.5 million. Whereas, those who stayed on the island were about 0.7 million in 2010 and 2011, and then causing a marginal rise in its value in 2012 as 1.25 million, and then staying constant for the rest of the year till 2017 with upto 1.5 million number of visitors, while facing another deficit in staycation again similar to the amount of visitors in 2012. Conversely, the people who stayed on the cruises comprises of a minimal ratio of 0.25 million in 2010, then shifting up to 0.5 million, then decreasing identical to 2010, afterwards constituting a magnificent reach after the year 2014 and rising upto 2 million by the end of year 2017.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The student attempts to cover the main features of the graph, outlining data for visitors staying on cruise ships, those staying on the island, and the total. However, there are significant inaccuracies in data reporting. For instance, the student states that visitors staying on the island were 'about 0.7 million in 2010 and 2011', whereas the transcription and chart show 0.75 million, which is acceptable, but then describes 2016 incorrectly by stating there was a deficit down to 1.25 million while conflating it with other years, and misreads values in places. Furthermore, the overview sentence is grammatically disjointed and lacks precision. While the general upward trend is captured, the execution contains factual inaccuracies regarding specific data points, pulling the score down to Band 5.0.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response is organized into three paragraphs, including an introduction, a very long and dense body paragraph, and a concluding sentence. However, the progression within the body paragraph is severely hindered by extremely long, run-on sentences filled with clumsy conjunctions and connectors such as 'Whereas', 'while facing another deficit', and 'Conversely, the people who stayed on the cruises comprises'. Paragraphing is poorly utilized because the entire body of data is crammed into one massive, difficult-to-follow paragraph. Cohesive devices are frequently misused or mechanically strung together, resulting in a lack of clear logical flow. These issues align well with Band 5.0 descriptors.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The student attempts to use some less common vocabulary, such as 'substantial increase', 'marginal rise', 'deficit', and 'magnificent reach'. However, many lexical choices are unnatural or inaccurate in context, such as 'tourists number', 'frequent shift in value', 'staycation' (which incorrectly refers to staying on an island rather than a vacation at home), and 'magnificent reach'. Word formation and collocation errors are noticeable, such as 'the cruises comprises' (subject-verb agreement combined with lexical misuse). While the vocabulary is adequate to convey a basic meaning, the frequent collocation and word-choice errors restrict the score to Band 5.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but the control over grammar is weak. There are numerous grammatical errors throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues ('the people who stayed on the cruises comprises'), awkward relative clauses ('those who have visited'), and severe run-on sentences lacking proper punctuation. The opening sentence 'The graph illustrates the tourists number, those who have visited...' is ungrammatical. Frequent errors cause difficulty for the reader and obscure meaning, placing this performance firmly in Band 5.0.
