Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The response attempts to summarize the main trends in the graph, noting the overall total figures and the two categories of visitors. However, the student has failed to meet the minimum length requirement of 150 words, coming in at 133 words, which directly impacts the completeness of the response. While an overview is attempted, it is awkwardly phrased and lacks clarity. Furthermore, some data points are vaguely described or inaccurately reported, such as claiming the figures stopped or remained the same when the chart shows ongoing trends or specific fluctuations. Due to under-length and limited development of details, this falls into Band 5.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The text is organized into paragraphs, attempting an introduction, an overview, and body details. However, the progression of ideas is hindered by poor cohesive devices and repetitive phrasing. Transitions like 'Although', 'On the other hand', and 'after this' are misused or mechanically applied, creating confusion rather than logical flow. Referencing is also weak, making it difficult to follow which data group is being discussed at times. Paragraphing is rudimentary. This level of organization aligns with Band 5 descriptors.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is very basic and repetitive. The student relies heavily on simple words and phrases such as 'number of visitors', 'visiting a Caribbean island', and 'fluctuating'. There are noticeable lexical errors and awkward collocations, such as 'The lines graph illustrates' instead of 'line graph', 'visitoors', 'it was rose', and 'reamin same'. Attempts to use less common vocabulary are unsuccessful due to word-form and spelling errors. This performance fits Band 5.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The essay displays a very limited range of grammatical structures. Most sentences contain significant errors in tense selection, voice, and clause construction. Examples include 'there are 1 million visitors for visiting', 'suddenly it was rose throughtout', and 'visitors was visitong and remain same'. The frequent grammatical errors and awkward phrasing cause considerable difficulty for the reader and impede clear communication at times, placing the writing firmly in Band 5.
