Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The student attempts to summarise the main features of the chart, noting the overall trend and mentioning both tourist categories. However, the response fails to meet the minimum word length requirement of 150 words, standing at only 129 words. Additionally, there are several data inaccuracies and confusing expressions, particularly in the final paragraph where the descriptions of the two visitor types become muddled and difficult to follow. While an overview is attempted, the underdeveloped body paragraphs and missed details prevent a higher score.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The essay uses some basic cohesive devices, such as 'Overall' and 'Meanwhile', to structure the response. However, paragraphing is underdeveloped, and the flow of ideas breaks down significantly in the second half of the text. Sentences like 'before re to 1.5 recovering million in 2017' demonstrate severe disruptions in coherence and syntax. Logical progression is hindered by confusing sentence structures and abrupt transitions, resulting in an overall arrangement that feels disjointed and difficult to read.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The student attempts some less common vocabulary, such as 'dominant factor' and 'flucuated', but experiences frequent issues with word choice, spelling ('approxiametly', 'flucuated'), and collocation. Phrases like 'considerably the dominant factor than' are unnatural. While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey a basic meaning, the lexical control is weak, and the recurring errors in word formation and spelling reduce the effectiveness of the communication.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The text contains a mix of simple and attempted complex structures, but grammatical accuracy is very low. There are numerous severe errors, including awkward word order, fragments, and broken syntax, such as 'tourists staying on cruise ships substantial experienced overall increase' and 'before re to 1.5 recovering million in 2017'. Punctuation and word placement errors are frequent, making several sentences entirely incomprehensible and causing significant difficulty for the reader.
