Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

The student attempts to address the task by describing the main trends in the line graph, noting figures for visitors staying on cruise ships, the island, and the total. However, the response fails to meet the minimum word length requirement of 150 words, containing only 127 words. Furthermore, there are numerous factual inaccuracies in the data reporting (e.g., misinterpreting the numbers and confusing the trends for cruise ship and island visitors in the third and fourth paragraphs). While an overview is attempted, it is awkwardly phrased and lacks clarity. Consequently, the response only partially addresses the prompt.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The text is divided into short paragraphs, but the overall logical progression is weak. Cohesive devices are used awkwardly or inaccurately (for instance, the transition 'Compare to visitors living in cruise ship'). There is also noticeable repetition in how data points are introduced. Referencing is sometimes unclear, making it difficult to follow the comparisons between the two categories of tourists. Paragraphing is attempted, but the paragraphs are underdeveloped and fail to guide the reader smoothly through the visual data.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

The lexical range is limited and repetitive, with frequent spelling mistakes ('toursits', 'particula', 'caribbean sland', 'paroprtion'). Word choice is frequently inaccurate, such as using 'living' instead of 'staying', and 'ratio' instead of 'number' or 'figure'. While the vocabulary is adequate to convey basic concepts related to tourists and years, the number of lexical errors and misspellings creates strain for the reader and restricts the score to this band.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, but control is weak. There are frequent grammatical and punctuation errors throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues (e.g., 'Both visitors... has', 'visitors staying in island were... which rose... and reached... vistiors') and article omissions. Prepositional errors are also common ('staying in island' instead of 'staying on the island'). These errors occasionally impede communication and reduce the overall accuracy of the writing.
