Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

The response attempts to summarize the line graph showing tourist numbers between 2010 and 2017. However, it falls significantly short of a well-structured academic task 1 response. The writer mentions a few data points, such as over one million visitors in 2010 and 3.5 million in 2017, but many figures are either vague or inaccurate compared to the actual data. Furthermore, the response includes inappropriate personal commentary and speculation ("as we know the more people knew about the new places their desires to visit there is very high"), which is a major weakness for Academic Task 1 where objectivity is required. The lack of clear paragraphing and a proper overview also pulls down the score.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0

Coherence and cohesion are severely compromised. The entire text is written as one single, long, run-on sentence without any full stops or paragraph breaks. There is an almost complete absence of punctuation, making it extremely difficult for the reader to follow the logical progression of ideas. Cohesive devices are either missing or misused, relying heavily on repetitive transition phrases like 'as the time goes' and 'as compared to'. Consequently, the information is not arranged in a coherent or readable manner.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

The lexical resource is basic and repetitive. The student relies on elementary vocabulary such as 'ratio', 'people', 'good', and 'high'. There are multiple spelling and word-choice errors, such as 'caribean' (Caribbean), 'experiance' (experience), 'ammount' (amount), and 'millons' (millions). Less common vocabulary is attempted with poor precision, and collocation is weak. The vocabulary is just about adequate to convey basic concepts of increase and comparison, but errors frequently distract the reader.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.0

Grammatical control is very weak. The entire response consists of a single massive run-on sentence joined by commas and conjunctions like 'and' and 'then'. There is a complete lack of sentence boundaries and punctuation. Basic grammatical rules are violated frequently, including subject-verb agreement errors ('the tourist visited', 'there are more people come') and tense inconsistencies. The range of structures is extremely limited, restricted to faulty compound-complex attempts run together without proper subordination or punctuation.
