Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The student attempts to address the prompt by reporting key features and comparisons from the graph. However, there are notable inaccuracies in the data cited: for instance, the writer states that visitors staying on a cruise ship were 'approximetley around 0.5 million in 2010', whereas the actual figure is closer to 0.25 million. Similarly, the opening overview is overly simplistic, and the response trails off abruptly at the end ('staying on cruise shi'). While the main trends are touched upon, the lack of precision in data reporting and the incomplete ending keep this performance at a Band 5.0.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response is structured into short paragraphs, attempting an introduction, body details, and an overall summary. However, the progression is disjointed. The use of cohesive devices is minimal and sometimes awkward, as seen in the transition 'Overview, the number of total visitors are increase too much'. Paragraphing is attempted, but the concluding sentence is cut off mid-word, demonstrating a lack of control over the overall cohesion and layout of the essay. Referencing is basic and repetitive, leading to an overall score of 5.0.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is very basic and repetitive ('increase', 'rise', 'visitors', 'staying'). There are frequent word choice and formation errors, such as 'are increase too much', 'are rise', and misspelt words like 'approximetley' and 'sharpley'. The student struggles with basic verb forms and collocations when discussing data trends. The lexical range is limited and barely adequate for the task, resulting in a Band 5.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
Grammatical control is weak throughout the text. The student frequently mixes up verb tenses and forms, such as 'the number of total visitors are increase' and 'The visitors who staying on cruise ship is'. Complex sentence structures are attempted but are generally faulty. Punctuation and basic sentence construction errors appear in almost every sentence, causing some difficulty for the reader and placing this text firmly at a Band 5.0.
