Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.5

The student attempts to describe the line chart illustrating tourist visits to a Caribbean island between 2010 and 2017. However, the task achievement is very weak. The response contains severe misinterpretations of the data, such as claiming 'the ratio of visitors was very normal and in 0.5%'. Furthermore, the overview is non-existent, and the data points are confusingly reported without a clear selection of main features or accurate comparisons. The response fails to properly summarize the information provided in the graph, resulting in an inadequate fulfillment of the task requirements.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0

The text lacks logical organization and progression. It is written as a single, rambling paragraph that moves haphazardly between different parts of the data without clear transitions. Cohesive devices are either misused or absent, making it difficult to follow the flow of information. For instance, phrases like 'If we see in 2010' and 'after sometime' create a disjointed and conversational tone rather than an objective academic report. Paragraphing is entirely neglected, which further undermines the structural coherence of the writing.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.0

The vocabulary used is extremely limited, repetitive, and often inappropriate for an academic task. Words and phrases like 'very normal', 'below down', and 'amount of visitors are high in rate' demonstrate a lack of precision and lexical control. There are numerous awkward phrasings and word choice errors, such as 'growing in rate from 2010 t0 2010'. While the student attempts to use some topic-related vocabulary such as 'tourists', 'island', and 'cruise ships', the overall range is insufficient to convey precise meaning.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 3.5

Grammatical control is poor throughout the response. The text is plagued by severe structural errors, run-on sentences, and incorrect verb tenses. For example, the opening sentence 'The line chart illustrate' exhibits a subject-verb agreement error. Sentences are frequently joined incorrectly with commas or conjunctions, resulting in incomprehensible clauses such as 'then the visitors staying on the island which was a great source of income and it become a business and it will be the growing in rate'. Simple structures are handled inaccurately, and attempts at complex sentences completely break down.
