Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

The student successfully addresses the main features of the graph by reporting the overall trends and making relevant comparisons between the two categories of tourists. An overview is provided, stating that the total number of visitors increased considerably. Key features are selected, such as the steady rise in cruise ship visitors and the fluctuations in island-stay visitors. However, there are some minor inaccuracies in specific data reporting and a slight lack of precision in describing certain years (e.g., grouping 2010 to 2011 and confusing some figures). Despite these minor flaws, the task is covered reasonably well.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response is organized into paragraphs, starting with an introduction and overview, followed by chronological body paragraphs. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Overall', 'while', 'however', and 'nevertheless'. However, referencing and transitions are sometimes mechanical or slightly confusing, such as 'In 2010 to 2011, number of visitors were increased' and 'By 2014 to 2015'. Paragraphing is present, but the logical progression within paragraphs could be smoother to achieve a higher band.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

The student attempts a range of vocabulary appropriate for Task 1, including terms like 'fluctuation', 'significant increase', 'considerably', and 'declined'. There are a few spelling and word choice errors, such as 'tourista' instead of 'tourists', 'visitors those staying' which contains a grammatical redundancy, and 'dramatically change' instead of 'dramatic change'. Despite these slips, the vocabulary is adequate to convey the intended meaning.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, using clauses of concession and time such as 'while visitors those staying on island showed some fluctuation'. However, there are frequent grammatical errors and awkward phrasing, including subject-verb agreement issues ('number of visitors were increased'), missing articles ('in cruise ships', 'on island'), and incorrect prepositions ('at the year of 2017'). These errors occasionally cause slight confusion for the reader.
