Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses the main parts of the task by reporting key data points and making general comparisons, such as noting the overall trajectory of the total number of visitors and the contrasting trends between those staying on cruise ships versus those staying on the island. However, the treatment of information is uneven and contains inaccuracies in reading the data, such as misidentifying the total line as the 'highest' category rather than the aggregate sum. While an overview is attempted, it is partially obscured by imprecise phrasing ('proportion' instead of 'number'). The development of ideas is limited, leading to a partial overview of the visual data. To reach a higher level, the response would need to more accurately report specific figures and provide a clearer, more precise overview that correctly identifies all major trends and relationships without mechanical or inaccurate descriptions of the data series.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response demonstrates a basic organizational structure with paragraphs separating different data categories. However, there is a lack of clear overall progression, and the logical flow between sentences is often hindered by mechanical or repetitive cohesive devices, such as the frequent use of 'furthermore' and 'following this'. Paragraphing is attempted, but internal cohesion is sometimes faulty or referencing is unclear, making it occasionally difficult to follow the precise relationships between data points. To improve Coherence and Cohesion, the writer should employ a wider and more natural variety of transitional phrases to link ideas smoothly, ensure that referencing within and across sentences is precise, and construct a logical, progressive narrative that connects the overall trends directly to the specific data details.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is minimally adequate for the task, with an attempt to incorporate less common items and trend-related vocabulary such as 'fluctuation', 'surged', and 'steadly'. However, there are noticeable errors in word choice, form, and spelling throughout the text, including typos like 'visting', 'throught', and 'steadly', as well as awkward phrasing like 'visitor who staying'. These lexical slips and inaccuracies sometimes cause strain or slight confusion for the reader. To achieve a higher band for Lexical Resource, the writer must expand the range of vocabulary used, improve control over word formations and collocations, and eliminate basic spelling mistakes through careful proofreading, allowing for greater precision and naturalness when describing statistical trends.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response employs a limited range of sentence structures, relying heavily on simple sentences and basic clauses alongside attempts at more complex structures that frequently contain grammatical errors. There are persistent mistakes in verb forms and agreement, such as 'number of visitor who staying', missing auxiliary verbs, incorrect prepositions, and punctuation issues like missing spaces after commas and periods. These frequent errors cause some difficulty for the reader. To improve in this area, the writer needs to demonstrate better control over complex sentence patterns, ensure accurate subject-verb agreement, pay closer attention to relative clauses and participle phrases, and refine basic punctuation and capitalization habits to ensure clearer and more accurate communication.
