Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response attempts to summarize the line graph showing tourist numbers between 2010 and 2017, but the task is only partially addressed. While some main features are mentioned, such as the figures for cruise ship visitors and the total in 2010 and 2017, the details are often inaccurate or unclear. For instance, the writer states that cruise ship visitors in 2010 were 'low to 0.5%', whereas the graph shows 0.25 million, and misinterprets the data for visitors staying on the island. Furthermore, there is no clear overview of the overall trends, and the ideas are limited and under-developed, relying on vague commentary rather than a precise synthesis of the visual data.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

There is some basic organization in the response, grouping information by categories, but the overall progression lacks clarity and logical flow. Cohesive devices are either missing, inadequate, or repetitive, making the text disjointed. For example, transitions between sentences rely heavily on simplistic connectors and repetitive phrases like 'in 2010' and 'in 2017'. Paragraphing is also poorly managed, with the text clumped into dense blocks without a clear introduction or distinct analytical paragraphs. Referencing is frequently unclear, particularly when the writer attempts to compare the different categories toward the end of the text, leading to confusion for the reader.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

The vocabulary used is limited and barely adequate for the task. The writer relies on basic, repetitive terms such as 'ratio', 'grow', and 'visited' throughout the response. There are numerous lexical errors in word choice, collocation, and word formation, such as 'visitirs', 'aboved', 'growp', and 'milions', which stem from spelling and morphological issues. Attempts to use less common vocabulary are unsuccessful, and these noticeable inaccuracies occasionally cause strain for the reader in understanding the precise meaning intended.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The grammatical range is severely limited, consisting mostly of simple and attempted complex sentence forms that are frequently faulty. There are frequent errors in basic sentence structure, verb tenses, and agreement, such as 'This graph show that ratio...', 'The visitirs staying on cruise ships ratio is in 2010 are low...', and 'The visitors whose staying on island there ratio increase'. Punctuation is also poorly handled, with missing commas and run-on structures. These frequent errors in grammar cause significant difficulty and impede clear communication for the reader.
