Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

The response fails to meet the minimum length requirement of 150 words, finishing at only 122 words. It attempts to address the task by outlining overall trends and specific data points for tourists visiting the Caribbean island. However, the information is only partially covered, and the writing trails off incompletely at the end with the fragment 'However, the following trend showed only'. While an overall trend is identified, the selection of data is incomplete and lacks proper development. To reach higher bands, the response must meet the word count requirement and present a fully developed overview with accurate reporting of all main data series.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

The text demonstrates a basic attempt at paragraphing and structuring, but it lacks a clear overall progression. While introductory and transitional cohesive phrases are used such as 'Overall' and 'With regards to', other links are awkward or inaccurate, for instance, 'Moreover, it is fluctuated in its pattern over the end of period'. The abrupt ending due to the missing conclusion severely disrupts the flow and logical development of ideas. To improve, the essay needs to maintain a consistent logical thread throughout, avoid repetitive or mechanical cohesive devices, and ensure that every paragraph contains fully resolved ideas rather than trailing off.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited and minimally adequate for the task. The student attempts some topic-specific vocabulary such as 'fluctuations', 'peak', and 'gradually increased', but also makes noticeable errors in word choice and units, such as measuring visitor numbers in percentages ('0.5%' instead of millions) and writing 'total island'. There are also awkward phrasings like 'individuals explored the total island'. These lexical slips and restricted range cause some confusion for the reader. To achieve a higher band, the writer should use precise numerical units, expand the range of descriptive vocabulary, and ensure correct collocations for describing data trends.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response shows a limited range of grammatical structures. While there are some attempts at complex sentences, they frequently contain errors, such as 'tourists staying on island beginning with lowest point and ending with highest peak', which lacks proper auxiliary verbs and articles. Other grammatical issues include missing prepositions and awkward tense usage, such as 'before gradually increased'. Frequent errors in articles, verb forms, and sentence construction are present throughout the text, occasionally causing difficulty for the reader. Incorporating a wider variety of error-free complex structures will be necessary to improve this score.
