Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

The response addresses the task only minimally. While the writer attempts to discuss the visual data, the reporting of specific figures is largely inaccurate and confused, such as stating the starting point goes to .4% or misinterpreting the final peak. There is no clear or accurate overview provided, and key features like the total trend and the split between cruise ship and island visitors are poorly represented. The ideas remain limited, tangled, and under-developed, making it difficult for the reader to follow the actual trends shown in the graph. To improve, the writer must ensure that accurate data from the chart is reported and that a clear, coherent overview of the main trends is included.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0

Information and ideas are not arranged coherently in this response. Although the text is divided into paragraphs, the internal logic of each paragraph is difficult to follow due to disjointed statements and mechanical transitions such as 'on the other hand' used repeatedly and inappropriately. There is no clear overall progression; the writing jumps between different years and data points without a logical framework. Paragraphing is attempted, but the lack of cohesive devices and clear referencing means the relationship between ideas is frequently obscure. To achieve a higher band, the writer needs to group related data logically, use accurate referencing, and ensure that cohesive devices guide the reader smoothly through the comparison of trends.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

The vocabulary used is basic, repetitive, and often imprecise for an academic task. Words like 'value', 'change', and 'rise' are used without proper context or precision, and terms are occasionally misspelt or misused, such as 'islan' instead of island, 'diifrence' instead of difference, and 'froam' from. The range of vocabulary is severely limited, restricting the writer's ability to convey precise measurements or trends. Frequent errors in word choice and spelling strain the reader and impede clear communication. To improve, the writer should build a stronger repertoire of task-specific vocabulary related to data trends, such as verbs of change and accurate nouns to describe data series.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The grammatical range is very limited, relying primarily on simple sentences or awkward attempts at complex structures that are frequently faulty. There are frequent errors in verb forms, tenses, prepositions, and subject-verb agreement, such as 'The graph illustrate' instead of illustrates, 'number of visitors have 1 million', and 'in 2016 had a great impact'. These persistent errors distort meaning and make several sentences difficult to parse. Punctuation is also inconsistently applied. To improve, the writer must focus on basic sentence construction, ensuring correct verb tenses for past data, accurate subject-verb agreement, and the correct use of prepositions within grammatical patterns.
