Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses the task partially, attempting to present an overview and select main features from the line graph, but it contains several inaccuracies regarding the data. For instance, the writer states that visitors staying on cruise ships recorded the highest figures overall, whereas the total number and island visitors were higher at various points. The overview attempts to capture the general trends, but it is expressed unclearly with phrasing like 'in three different types of tourists visting increased over the time'. Key trends are mentioned, such as the rise in cruise ship visitors to 2 million by 2017, but the overall development of ideas lacks precision and clarity. To reach a higher level, the response needs to accurately report the data without misinterpretations and provide a clearer, more precise overview of the main trends and comparisons.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

There is some basic organization with an introductory paragraph, body paragraphs, and an overall summary attempt, but the progression of information lacks clarity. Cohesive devices are used awkwardly or inaccurately, with excessive and repetitive use of transitional phrases such as 'In details', 'While', and 'In contrast' which do not always logically connect the clauses. Paragraphing is attempted, but the internal structure of the paragraphs feels disjointed due to abrupt shifts between data points. Referencing and linking between sentences need to be smoother and more accurate. To improve Coherence and Cohesion, the writer should use a wider variety of appropriate cohesive links naturally and ensure that each sentence logically follows from the previous one to establish a clear overall progression.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited and barely adequate for the task, with noticeable spelling and word-choice errors that occasionally cause difficulty for the reader. There are several spelling mistakes throughout the text, such as 'illustartes', 'visting', 'vistiors', 'recored', 'maintain', and 'steedly'. Word choices are often repetitive, relying heavily on basic terms like 'recorded', 'visitors', and 'millions'. Attempts to use less common vocabulary are hindered by inaccuracies in collocation and form. To achieve a higher band, the writer must expand their lexical range, eliminate spelling errors, and use more precise vocabulary related to data trends, such as 'fluctuated', 'rose significantly', or 'remained stable'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response demonstrates a very limited range of sentence structures, relying mostly on simple sentences and basic attempts at complex forms that are frequently faulty. There are frequent grammatical errors, including incorrect verb tenses, missing or incorrect prepositions, and issues with subject-verb agreement, such as 'visitors staying on island fluctuated the number of visitors' and 'It maintain the level'. Punctuation is also problematic in places, with awkward spacing and comma splices. These frequent errors cause some difficulty for the reader and impede smooth comprehension. To improve, the writer needs to practice forming accurate complex sentences, pay closer attention to verb tenses when describing past data, and reduce basic grammatical slips.
