Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

The response successfully covers all parts of the task by reporting on the three data series across the given timeframe. A clear overview is provided at the beginning, identifying the overall upward trend and the key crossover point between cruise and island visitors. Main features and specific comparisons are selected and reported well, such as noting that cruise visitors started from the lowest point and ended up above those staying on the island. While the main trends and data points are generally accurate and supported with figures from the graph, there is a slight tendency to over-generalize or state minor fluctuations that could be more concisely structured. Ideas are well-extended throughout the body paragraphs, making the information clear and easy to follow.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a logical progression from an introductory overview into detailed body paragraphs for each data category. Paragraphing is used appropriately, with distinct sections for the total, the island visitors, and the cruise visitors. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical or slightly faulty in places, such as with repetitive referencing (e.g., 'The visitors than show...', 'It than drops down...'). Transitional markers are utilized to guide the reader through the data, but referencing and substitution can occasionally feel formulaic, which keeps the response at this level.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items such as 'gradual increase', 'steady increase', and 'peak'. However, there are notable spelling errors and word-choice inaccuracies, such as 'demonstrate' instead of 'demonstrates', 'starting' instead of 'start', 'gets spike' instead of 'peaks' or 'spikes', and confusing 'then' with 'than'. These lexical slips and occasional awkward collocations do not impede communication, but they restrict the response from achieving a higher mark, reflecting a limited precision in word choice and spelling control.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writing demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, attempting structures like relative clauses and comparative statements. However, there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation, particularly regarding subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'The line graph demonstrate', 'Cruise visitors starts', 'Visitors staying on island... stays'), article usage (e.g., 'gets spike', 'inbetween'), and prepositional phrases. While these errors rarely impede communication and the meaning remains clear, the presence of frequent grammatical slips prevents the response from demonstrating the consistent control found at higher bands.
