Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response addresses the task only partially and lacks a fully developed overview. While the writer attempts to report the main trends, the description contains factual inaccuracies when compared to the visual data. For instance, the text claims that cruise ship visitors started from zero in 2010, whereas the graph clearly shows a starting figure of 0.25 million. Furthermore, some data points are misreported, such as stating that island visitors reached 1.5 million 'by the years where passing', which lacks precise temporal mapping and adequate data selection. To achieve higher bands, the response would need to accurately reflect all data sets without misinterpreting baseline figures and present a clearer, more comprehensive summary of the overall trends.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

There is some basic organisation with an attempt at paragraphing, but the response lacks a clear overall progression. Cohesive devices are used awkwardly or inaccurately, such as 'By the year of the time sudden incline was seen' and 'Futhermore', which disrupts the flow of information. Referencing and logical sequencing between sentences are frequently faulty, making it difficult for the reader to follow the progression of data. For improvement, the writer needs to ensure that cohesive links are used naturally and that ideas are grouped logically, perhaps dedicating distinct paragraphs to separate categories like cruise ship visitors and island visitors.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

Vocabulary is limited and repetitive, with noticeable errors that occasionally cause confusion for the reader. There are frequent spelling mistakes, such as 'visting', 'crusie', and 'flactuted', alongside awkward word choices like 'masses' and 'human being' to describe tourists. Word formation is also weak, as seen in 'incling' and 'delibreatly'. To move up, the writer should build a wider range of appropriate vocabulary related to graphs and trends, and pay closer attention to spelling and correct word forms.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response relies on a very limited range of sentence structures, and attempts at complex sentences are frequently faulty. There are numerous grammatical errors involving verb tenses, prepositions, and missing articles, such as 'the visitors stayed on island were flactuted by high to low' and 'the told visitors stayed both in cruise'. Frequent errors in basic sentence construction can cause difficulty and strain for the reader. To improve, the writer needs to focus on mastering basic sentence patterns, ensuring subject-verb agreement, and using correct prepositions and passive or active voice forms consistently.
