Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response presents an overview of the data and selects several key features, such as the initial and final figures for cruise ship visitors, island visitors, and the total. However, the information is only partially accurate and lacks complete development. For example, the student writes that visitor numbers in 2010 were "0.25 millions of visitor" and describes the categories as different islands rather than types of visitors staying on a single Caribbean island, revealing a misinterpretation of the visual data. The overview is somewhat confused, and while the main trends are touched upon, the lack of precision and under-developed comparisons prevent the response from achieving a higher band.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The writing demonstrates some organization, attempting an introduction, an overview paragraph, and body sections. However, there is no clear overall progression, and the logical flow is disrupted by weak referencing and mechanical transitions such as "To begin with visitors staying on cruise ships" and "On the other hand." Cohesive devices are used in a repetitive and sometimes inaccurate manner, leading to choppy sentences. Paragraphing is attempted, but the grouping of information lacks clarity, making it difficult for the reader to follow the comparisons between the different categories smoothly.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

Vocabulary use is limited and minimally adequate for the task. The student attempts some less common terms like "gradually increase" and "rapidly increase," but these are coupled with noticeable errors in word choice, such as referring to visitor categories as "different island" and using incorrect phrasing like "there measure is 1.5 million." Spelling and word form inaccuracies occur throughout the text, such as "explain" instead of "illustrates" and missing plural markers, which occasionally causes difficulty for the reader and restricts the score to a lower band.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The student uses a limited range of sentence structures, relying mostly on simple clauses and run-on sentences connected by conjunctions. Attempts at more complex structures are frequently faulty, characterized by missing verbs, incorrect prepositions, and persistent agreement errors, such as "there are 0.25 millions of visitor" and "there are rapid increase." Punctuation is basic, with run-on sentences lacking proper terminal punctuation or conjunction control. These frequent grammatical errors cause strain and confusion for the reader.
