Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response addresses the main parts of the task by identifying the overarching trends and outlining data for the three categories across the years. However, the information is only partially developed and contains some inaccuracies or confusion in reporting specific figures. For instance, the reference to total tourists accounting for 2.5 in 2014 lacks clarity, and some data points are generalized or imprecise (e.g., 'above 0 million'). While an overview is present, the lack of precision and under-development of certain comparisons prevent the response from achieving a higher level.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The essay displays some organizational structure with an introduction, an overview, and separate body paragraphs for different trends. However, there is no clear overall progression, and the logical flow between sentences and paragraphs is frequently hindered. Cohesive devices are used awkwardly or repetitively, such as the frequent reliance on 'It' at the beginning of consecutive sentences (e.g., 'It experienced...', 'It rose over...', 'It slightly dipp...'). Paragraphing is attempted, but the grouping of information lacks seamless transitions, making the relationships between data points sometimes difficult to follow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is limited and barely adequate for the task. There are noticeable errors in word choice, spelling, and word forms throughout the text, such as 'tourst', 'connstant', 'moderatedly', 'spacific', 'caribean', and 'flunctuations'. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary like 'sharp growth' and 'remain stable', but these attempts are undermined by persistent lexical inaccuracies and misspelling, which occasionally cause difficulty for the reader and reflect a restricted lexical range.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response demonstrates a very limited range of sentence structures, relying mostly on simple sentences with frequent attempts at complex or compound structures that are faulty. There are frequent grammatical errors involving verb tenses, articles, and prepositions inside grammatical patterns, such as 'visitors who staying on island rose moderatedly', 'Total tourists who visiting s spacific caribean island had accounted for', and 'stable for till 2016'. Punctuation and comma splices also occur ('in 2013, it remained stable'). These frequent errors can cause strain and difficulty for the reader.
