Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
The response responds to the task only minimally and tangentially, providing a very limited attempt to summarise the graph. While the writer attempts to mention data points, the information reported is largely inaccurate, confused, and fails to capture the main features or make accurate comparisons. For instance, the writer states that in 2010 'visitor staying on curise ship thst was 1 million of visitors', whereas the graph shows this figure was 0.25 million. Furthermore, the overview attempts are vague, incorrect, and lack a clear understanding of the overall trends shown in the visual data. The response also includes some minor copying from the task prompt.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
Information and ideas are not arranged coherently, and the response lacks clear progression. While paragraphing is attempted, the internal organisation within paragraphs is disjointed and difficult to follow. Cohesive devices are used very poorly, often inappropriately or mechanically, as seen in repetitive and abrupt transitions like 'whereas', 'but', and 'furthermore'. The referencing of ideas and data points is frequently unclear, making it hard for the reader to connect the sentences to the visual data. The overall structure fails to guide the reader logically through the information.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
The vocabulary used is basic, repetitive, and restricted to simple terms, frequently strained by noticeable errors in spelling, word choice, and word form. Examples of lexical errors include 'infromation', 'curise', 'thst', 'consent' instead of consistent, and 'slitely'. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary related to trends, such as 'inclined' and 'declined', but these are used inaccurately or combined with awkward phrasing like 'show sharply inclined trend' or 'flucation trend'. These frequent lexical inaccuracies and spelling slips strain the reader and limit precision.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
There is a very limited range of sentence structures, consisting mostly of faulty attempts at complex sentences. Grammatical errors are frequent throughout the text, involving missing articles ('visitor staying on curise ship'), incorrect verb forms ('visitor staying', 'it show stabled trend'), awkward prepositional phrases, and faulty subject-verb agreement. For example, sentences such as 'visitor staying on curise ship thst was 1 million of visitors, while after that it show sharply inclined trend' demonstrate a severe lack of control over basic clause structures. These frequent errors cause considerable difficulty for the reader and distort the meaning of several statements.
