Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response addresses the prompt by outlining some general trends from the graph, but it only partially covers the data. While you attempt to report figures for visitors staying on ships and the total count, your descriptions of the trends are sometimes unclear or factually imprecise compared to the visual data. For instance, your claim that 'total number of people never decreased' overlooks specific periods where numbers flattened or certain categories fluctuated. Ideas are introduced but remain under-developed, and the overview lacks a clear summary of the overall trajectory of all three categories across the whole period. To move up, you need to ensure all key features and main trends are accurately reported and supported with correct data points.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

There is a coherent overall arrangement to your writing, and you attempt to guide the reader using transition phrases such as 'To commence with' and 'Moving further'. However, your cohesion can feel somewhat mechanical and abrupt. Referencing between sentences is occasionally unclear, such as the transition into the details about island visitors at the end of the text. Paragraphing is used to separate your ideas, but the logical progression within the body paragraphs sometimes falters because sentences jump between categories without establishing clear connections. To achieve a higher level, you should ensure that cohesive devices are used more naturally and that information within paragraphs flows smoothly from general trends to specific comparisons.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You demonstrate an adequate vocabulary to complete the task, using terms such as 'rejuvenation', 'downward trend', and 'pinnacle'. However, your lexical range is limited and contains noticeable errors in word choice, spelling, and word form, such as 'illustates' instead of 'illustrates', 'islan' instead of 'island', 'enormous people' instead of a large number of people, and 'miilion'. Furthermore, phrases like 'visitors prefered to stay on island remained unchanged' contain collocation and grammatical word-choice issues that cause some difficulty for the reader. To improve, you should expand your vocabulary range, practice precise collocations for describing data, and check your spelling carefully before submitting.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

Your writing displays a limited range of sentence structures, relying mostly on simple forms alongside a few attempts at complex sentences. These attempts at complex structures are often faulty, leading to frequent errors in grammar, articles, and prepositions. Examples include missing articles ('staying on ship'), incorrect pluralization ('total vistors'), and awkward phrasing like 'island visitor were less the final year then their counterparts'. Punctuation and verb tense consistency also need attention throughout the text. To reach higher bands, you need to produce a wider variety of complex sentences with greater control and accuracy, ensuring that basic grammatical agreements and article usage are consistently correct.
