Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response addresses the task only partially because the data is presented with significant inaccuracies and a lack of precise reporting. While the overview attempts to capture general trends, it contains basic mathematical and factual errors, such as stating that 'in 2010 million tourists visited to island' and misinterpreting the scale and specific figures. Key features, such as the total number of visitors reaching three and a half million in 2017, are mentioned, but the overall presentation lacks a fully developed overview and clear comparative analysis throughout. Ideas are limited and under-developed, and the misreading of data points (such as confusing visitor categories and quantities) prevents the response from achieving a higher level of precision and completeness.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

There is some basic organisation with attempts at paragraphing, but the response lacks a clear overall progression. Cohesive devices are repetitive, mechanical, and occasionally inaccurate, such as abrupt transitions like 'Looking at the remaining figures' and 'In addition'. Referencing is sometimes unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the logical relationship between sentences and ideas. Paragraphing is attempted, but internal paragraph coherence is frequently disrupted by disconnected sentences and abrupt shifts in data focus. To improve, the writer needs to use a wider and more accurate range of cohesive devices to link sentences smoothly and ensure a logical, easy-to-follow progression of information throughout the report.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited and minimally adequate for the task. There are noticeable errors in word choice, collocation, and word form, such as 'milloion', 'amount increase', 'downfall', and spelling errors like 'carribean'. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary, but these attempts often lead to unnatural phrasing or inaccuracies that cause some difficulty for the reader. To move up, the student needs to expand their range of vocabulary related to data trends and graphs, and ensure greater accuracy in word formation, spelling, and collocations when describing increases, decreases, and proportions.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response demonstrates a very limited range of sentence structures, relying mostly on simple sentences, with attempts at complex sentences often being faulty. There are frequent grammatical errors, including missing articles ('staying at cruise ship'), incorrect verb tenses and forms ('the number of visitors increases', 'reaches to two million'), and punctuation mistakes (such as missing spaces after periods). These frequent errors can cause difficulty for the reader and obscure the intended meaning. To improve, the writer must focus on mastering basic sentence structures, ensuring correct subject-verb agreement, using appropriate articles, and controlling verb tenses when describing past data.
