Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

The response responds to the task only minimally. While the student attempts to present an overview and mention some data points from the chart, the information is largely confused, inaccurate, and lacks a coherent selection of main features. Furthermore, the length requirement is not met, as the response falls short of the 150-word minimum, containing only 140 words. To improve, the writer must ensure the word count requirement is satisfied and select key features of the graph, such as overall trends and major turning points, and report them accurately without relying on confusing or distorted interpretations of the data.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0

Information and ideas are not arranged cohesively. The response is divided into short, disjointed paragraphs and fragmented sentences, such as 'In , 2010 one million tourisit visited at the island .' The progression of ideas is extremely difficult to follow due to a lack of logical sequencing and poor transitions. Cohesive devices are either missing or misused, resulting in a text that lacks overall clarity and structure. To move up, the writer needs to group related information logically, use clear introductory and concluding sentences, and employ basic cohesive links such as 'meanwhile', 'in contrast', and 'overall' appropriately.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

The vocabulary is basic and repetitive, with frequent word-choice errors and misspellings that strain the reader, such as 'visting', 'caribeen', 'tourisit', 'milion', 'automattically', and 'noramally'. The student struggles to use appropriate terminology for describing data trends, often inventing awkward phrasing like 'visitor stayingbon curise ship is dramatically decrease'. To achieve a higher band, the writer must expand their vocabulary related to data analysis, improve spelling accuracy, and use precise collocations for describing upward and downward movements in graphs.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

Grammatical control is very limited, with frequent errors that distort meaning and cause difficulty for the reader. There are persistent errors in verb tenses, subject-verb agreement, articles, and prepositions, such as 'The bar chart show', 'visited at the island', and 'is greater then 2017 is noramally increase'. Simple sentence structures are handled poorly, and there are virtually no accurate complex structures. To improve, the writer needs to focus on foundational grammar, ensuring that verbs agree with subjects, appropriate tenses are used consistently for past data, and sentences are structured with clear grammatical boundaries.
