Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
The response presents an attempt to summarize the visual data, but it only partially addresses the task requirements. There are significant inaccuracies in reporting the data, such as stating that there were 0.25 million visitors staying on cruise ships in 2014 when the graph shows 1 million. Additionally, the overview provided at the end is factually incorrect according to the graph, as visitors staying on the island were generally more numerous or comparable for most of the period, while cruise ship visitors only surpassed them towards the very end. The response lacks a clear overview of the main overall trends from start to finish, which restricts the development of the ideas presented.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response shows some organization with an introduction, a body paragraph, and a brief conclusion, but there is no clear overall progression of ideas. Cohesive devices are used rather inadequately and repetitively, with frequent reliance on basic time markers like 'After 2014' and 'After 2011'. Paragraphing is attempted, but the separation of ideas does not fully aid logical flow. Reference words are sometimes unclear, and the mechanical transitions make the movement between data points feel disjointed rather than naturally sequenced.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary range is limited and minimally adequate for the task. The student attempts some less common vocabulary, such as 'gradually increasing', but makes noticeable errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'cruse' instead of cruise, 'whi' instead of who, 'grater' instead of greater, 'reamins' instead of remains, and 'deep' instead of dip. These lexical errors and awkward collocations cause some difficulty for the reader and impede smooth communication, restricting the score to a lower band level.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response displays a very limited range of structures, relying mostly on simple sentences with frequent attempts at complex structures that are often faulty. There are numerous grammatical errors throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues like 'The line graphs brings out' and 'there was 0.25 millions visitors were stayed', incorrect verb forms such as 'visitors are intrested to stayed', and missing articles. These frequent errors cause significant difficulty and confusion for the reader regarding the exact meaning of the sentences.
