Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, stopping abruptly at only 52 words and trailing off mid-sentence. Consequently, it only touches upon the task minimally. While the student attempts a brief opening statement about the line graph and a very broad general trend, key features and comparisons are severely underdeveloped and incomplete. The text does not provide a proper overview or adequately report the data for cruise ship visitors and island stay visitors as required by the prompt.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 3.5
The text demonstrates some basic organisational structure by attempting an introduction and a brief overview using transitional words such as 'Overall'. However, because the response is extremely short and cuts off abruptly at the end, there is no clear progression of ideas or functional paragraphing. Referencing is also somewhat mechanical and unclear, particularly in phrases like 'the these years', which impedes the overall flow and logical development of the writing.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
The vocabulary used is adequate for basic communication, but it contains noticeable spelling and word choice errors that reflect a limited range. For instance, 'amount' is used incorrectly instead of 'number' with countable nouns like tourists, 'paticular' is misspelled, and 'caribbean' lacks a capital letter. While the writer attempts some less common terms like 'exploring' and 'total amount', the frequent lexical inaccuracies and the very restricted vocabulary size prevent the response from achieving a higher band.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response shows a very limited range of sentence structures, relying on simple forms with faulty attempts at modification. There are noticeable grammatical and punctuation errors throughout, such as missing articles ('the amount of tourists' instead of 'the number'), awkward prepositions ('in the starting to ending'), and incorrect plurals or verb forms ('visiters staying on cruise ships... became many changes'). These frequent errors can cause some difficulty for the reader, although basic meaning is occasionally conveyed.
