Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
You identify the chart’s subject and mention all three series, with some relevant trends, such as cruise-ship visitors rising towards 2017 and island visitors dipping in 2016. However, the overview mostly repeats that the graph shows visitor numbers rather than summarising its main features. Several figures are inaccurate: island visitors were about 0.75 million in 2010 and 2011, not 1.5 million; the total in 2017 was about 3.5 million, not one million. The cruise-ship trend also fluctuated early on, so describing a continuous rise from 2012 is misleading. Select the key overall patterns, then report a few accurate figures to support them.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
The response has a basic sequence: an introduction, followed by comments on cruise-ship visitors, island visitors and the total. This gives the reader some sense of the chart’s categories. However, the overview does not provide a useful organising summary, and the body paragraphs rely on repetitive transitions such as “The visitors…” and “Now i talk about”. Some sentences are difficult to follow because ideas are joined without clear grammatical or logical links, particularly the cruise-ship description. Use a clear overview and group related trends into purposeful paragraphs. Linking phrases such as “By contrast” or “Meanwhile” can clarify comparisons, but should connect accurate, complete statements.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
You use some relevant chart vocabulary, including “increased”, “decreased”, “total numbers” and “visitors”, so the general topic is usually recognisable. However, the vocabulary is repetitive and several phrases are unnatural or imprecise, such as “they have visited” for describing figures and “per 0.5 millions visitors”. Spelling errors, including “visting”, “continously” and “millins”, also reduce accuracy. Build a small range of precise trend language and use it consistently: for example, describe figures as “rose to” or “fell to”, and refer to “the number of visitors”. Check spelling and use “million” without a plural after a number.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response attempts to describe changes over time, but sentence structures are mostly basic and many contain errors that make relationships between ideas unclear. For example, “The visitors … in 2010, they have 0.25 millions” is a sentence fragment followed by an incorrectly formed clause, while “they are increased” uses an unsuitable passive form. Tense and agreement are also inconsistent, as in “when they are visited” and “the numbers … increased”. Practise complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, using the past simple for the chart period: “Cruise-ship visitors rose from 0.25 million in 2010 to 2 million in 2017.” Punctuate each comparison as a full sentence.
