Student answer (Band 6.0)
The given line graph depicts the number of tourists visiting a certain Caribbean island between the year 2010 and 2017.
In an overview, the line graph illustrates the count of tourists exploring a Caribean island in several years. It is clear that, there is a surge in the total number of tourists over these years and the number of visitors staying on the island got reduced in the period of tme.
According to the line graph, the figure for visitors stayed on the Caribbean island got escalated from the initial year of 2010 to 2015 and later shows a sudden decline. The tourists stayed on cruise ships shows fluctuating figures and it demonstrates a rapid increase after the year 2015. The number of tourists stayed on cruise ships and island exhibits disproportionate growith after 2015, where it recorded nearly 1.5 millions in both ways.
Moreover, the total visitor count on the island shows a drastic growth and the increment become rapid after the year 2016 as it reaches more than 2.5 million of tourist and then it approaches the maximum of 3.5 millions of visitors in the final year of 2017.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You identify the main overall rise in total visitors and describe the contrasting patterns of island-based and cruise-ship visitors, so the response addresses the task and includes relevant comparisons. However, some details are inaccurate or unclear. Island visitors did not decline after 2015: they remained at about 1.5 million in 2015 and 2017, with a small dip to 1.25 million in 2016. The claim that both categories recorded nearly 1.5 million after 2015 is also misleading, since cruise-ship visitors reached about 2 million by 2017. The overview would be stronger if it accurately highlighted the steady total growth and the eventual dominance of cruise visitors. Some trends are reported, but not all are developed precisely.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction, an overview, and paragraphs describing the visitor categories and total. This makes the information easy to follow, and linking phrases such as “According to” and “Moreover” help signal progression. The organisation is generally coherent, but the overview repeats the introductory idea of what the graph shows rather than summarising the key patterns efficiently. Some references are also unclear: “both ways” does not clearly identify the two visitor categories, and “it” in the final paragraph could refer to either the total or the island. To strengthen progression, group the figures by trend and use explicit references, while avoiding repeated descriptions of the graph.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You attempt a range of vocabulary, including “surge,” “fluctuating,” “drastic growth,” and “rapid increase,” which shows an effort to describe trends rather than rely only on basic terms. However, several choices are unnatural or imprecise for this task, such as “the count of tourists exploring,” “got escalated,” and “disproportionate growth.” Spelling errors in “Caribean,” “tme,” and “growith” also reduce accuracy. Repeated use of “tourists” and “visitors” is understandable, but some phrases obscure the intended comparison. Aim for precise chart language and natural collocations, for example “the number of visitors rose” or “cruise-ship visitors increased steadily.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You use both simple statements and longer sentences with clauses, as in “It is clear that…” and the sentence beginning “Moreover,” so there is some structural variety. The main trends are usually understandable, but some grammatical errors affect clarity. For example, “there is a surge” shifts into the present tense when describing past data, and “the increment become rapid” has incorrect verb agreement and tense. In “the figure for visitors stayed,” the relative clause needs a suitable form such as “visitors who stayed.” There are also awkward article and number patterns, including “2.5 million of tourist.” Keep the past tense consistent and check agreement, clause construction, and singular/plural forms.
