Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You provide a clear overview of the main pattern: total visitor numbers rose substantially, island-based visitors increased overall, and cruise-ship visitors grew despite fluctuations. The total figures are reported accurately, including the plateau at about 2.75 million in 2015–16 and the rise to 3.5 million in 2017. The island-stay account also captures its rise, stability, slight dip and recovery. This covers the task well, with some features more fully reported than others: the cruise-ship series is only summarised as rising from 0.25 to 2 million, so its fluctuations and later acceleration are not described. To strengthen the response further, compare the two visitor categories at key points, especially when cruise-ship numbers overtake island stays in 2016.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a generally logical structure: an introduction and overview are followed by a paragraph on totals and one comparing the accommodation categories. Sequencing within the total figures is easy to follow, and transitions such as “finally” and “meanwhile” help guide the reader. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical or awkward. “In terms of, regarding” repeats the same linking function, while “By analyzing the data” adds little and makes the transition less direct. The overview and body also repeat the general idea of increase without always linking the details to the key comparisons. Use clearer topic sentences and a smaller, more purposeful range of connectors to make the progression smoother.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use enough vocabulary to describe the graph, including “increased considerably,” “remained stable,” “fell slightly,” and “climbed sharply.” These choices communicate the main trends, and the range of movement verbs gives some variation. However, several expressions are repetitive or imprecise: “visitors visiting” repeats the same idea, and “over the year” is unsuitable for a trend spanning several years. “In terms of, regarding” is also an awkward combination. Aim for more precise collocations and avoid repeating “figure” and “reached” where alternatives would fit. These limitations make the vocabulary less flexible and natural, although the intended meaning remains clear.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a sequence with “before reaching” and clauses describing changes over time. Most of the data remains understandable, but some grammatical and punctuation errors are noticeable. For example, “A glance at the graph reveal” has subject–verb disagreement, and “between 2010 to 2017” uses an incorrect preposition pattern. Several sentences begin with lowercase “this,” “it” or “finally” after a full stop, and the overview has unnecessary punctuation after “that.” The phrase “it remained stable unit 2015” also contains a form error. Check agreement, prepositions and sentence boundaries, and proofread capitalization to improve accuracy while retaining varied sentence structures.
