Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You identify the main overall pattern: the total rose from about 1 million to 3.5 million, while cruise-ship visitors increased substantially and island-staying numbers changed less. Most figures and trends are consistent with the graph. The island series is described as rising until 2015, but it had already reached about 1.5 million in 2013 and then remained broadly stable through 2015; this makes that stage less precise. The overview also says both accommodation groups fluctuated, although the island figure was mostly stable after its rise. Your response covers the key series and gives relevant comparisons, but some features are less fully or accurately explained. A clearer overview distinguishing the strong cruise-ship growth from the relatively stable island figures would strengthen the summary.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, separate discussion of the accommodation categories, and a final statement about the total. This gives the reader a generally coherent route through the information. However, the final paragraph repeats the total’s rise already mentioned in the overview, while the body’s comparisons between the two accommodation groups could be integrated more clearly. Connectors such as “Whereas” and “On the other hand” do not always express a clear contrast, and several sentences run together without spaces after full stops or commas. Use paragraphing to group related trends and link each comparison directly to the relevant figures; this would make progression smoother and cohesion less mechanical.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “steady growth,” “moderate increase,” “fluctuations,” and “tremendous jump,” and the reader can generally understand the trends you intend to describe. However, spelling errors are noticeable, for example “accomodation,” “flactuations,” “comaprison,” and “crusie.” Some word combinations are also imprecise or unnatural, such as “tourists visited an Caribbean Island” and “numbers … representing a growth.” Repetition of “visitors” and “millions” limits flexibility, while “tremendous jump” overstates a gradual rise across the period. Aim for accurate trend language and natural collocations, and proofread spelling carefully; these changes would make your vocabulary more precise and reliable.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt a mixture of simple and more complex sentences, including clauses introduced by “whereas” and “although,” and the main trends remain understandable. However, errors in sentence construction and grammatical forms are frequent enough to limit accuracy. For example, “total number of travellers kept increasing” needs an article, and “Travellers stayed on Island, strated somewhere” lacks a clear grammatical structure. The sentence beginning “However, a steady rise in every year made” has no clear subject or correctly formed verb phrase. There are also problems with articles, plurals, and punctuation, including missing spaces after sentence boundaries. Practise building complete subject–verb sentences first, then add subordinate clauses, and check articles and sentence boundaries during revision.
