Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You cover the main subject and provide an overview, noting that total visitor numbers rose and that cruise-ship visitors increased overall, while island-staying figures fluctuated. Several key details are accurately reported: the total was about 1 million in 2010 and reached 3.5 million in 2017, and island visitors fell in 2016 before recovering. However, the overview is imprecise: cruise-ship numbers did not rise continuously from 2012, since they dipped that year, and the total was unchanged at about 2.75 million in 2015 and 2016 rather than increasing every year. The claim that cruise visitors “stop at 2 millions in 2017” is also unclear. Make the overview more precise and compare the two visitor groups across the period to develop the report more fully.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, an overview and paragraphs describing figures, and the information is generally grouped by topic. Time markers such as “In 2010,” “In 2011” and “in 2016” help readers follow the chronology. However, progression is weakened by unclear or mechanical connections, including “After this unlucky year for ships” and “And then after one year,” which do not clearly express the relationship between the data points. The discussion also shifts between total visitors and the two categories without consistently signalling those changes. Use clearer topic sentences and more precise linking language, and organise the body paragraphs so each follows a clear comparison or trend rather than repeating the overview.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use relevant vocabulary for describing trends, including “increase,” “fluctuates,” “remained stable” and “droped,” so the reader can usually identify the intended changes. However, the range is limited and several choices are inaccurate or unnatural for a graph report. Phrases such as “too much increase in populaton,” “unlucky year for ships,” and “not provides any good response” are informal or do not convey the data clearly. Spelling errors such as “caribbean,” “populaton,” “droped” and “becomed” also reduce accuracy. Aim for concise, conventional reporting language and check spelling; for example, describe figures as rising, falling, remaining stable or fluctuating, rather than assigning them a “response” or calling a year “unlucky.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including contrast with “However” and a relative clause in “tourists who were staying at cruise ships.” Meaning is generally recoverable, but errors in sentence construction and verb forms are frequent enough to make some statements difficult to follow. Examples include “The line graph illustrated the information that how many tourists,” “the population becomed too much increase,” and “it was go upward.” There are also problems with agreement and tense, as in “The number of total visitors had always increase,” and with sentence boundaries in “In 2011, it goes to upward but it remained stable.” Practise accurate past-tense reporting and build sentences around clear subjects and verbs; then check agreement and punctuation.
