Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

You identify the period and report some relevant figures, including the rise in cruise-ship visitors to 2 million in 2017 and the island-staying figure of 1.5 million that year. However, the overview is unclear and does not accurately summarise the main pattern: “the maximum number … and the minimum number” does not specify which category is highest or when, and island-staying visitors were not consistently the minimum. Several figures or comparisons are inaccurate or incomplete: for example, the total in 2013 and 2014 was 2 and 2.5 million, but the response gives only their difference. The account also omits the overall total’s rise to 3.5 million in 2017. Select the main trends and compare the three series more accurately.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

The response has an introduction, an attempted overview, and two body paragraphs, so there is some basic organisation. However, the information does not progress clearly: the first body paragraph moves between years and categories, while the second jumps from 2015 and 2017 back to totals for 2011–2014. This makes comparisons difficult to follow. Linking phrases such as “To commence with,” “Moving ahead,” and “Furthermore” are used, but they do not consistently show the relationship between the figures; “With regards to” also introduces an unfinished comparison. Group the information by trend or series, keep the years in chronological order, and use clear references to connect each comparison.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “visitors,” “total number,” and “difference,” and the reader can generally identify the subject of the report. However, the range is limited and several phrases are repetitive or unnatural, such as “the number of tourists who staying” and “visitors staying on island.” There are also spelling and word-choice problems, including “caribbean,” “cartibbean,” “formar,” “later,” and “ans.” These errors reduce precision and sometimes make the intended comparison less clear. Use standard chart language consistently, such as “tourists staying on the island,” “rose to,” and “the former/the latter,” and check spelling before submitting.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response attempts a few longer structures, including “Not only this” and sentences beginning “With regards to,” but the range is limited and these constructions are not controlled. Errors occur frequently in verb forms and sentence structure: “tourists who staying” should be “tourists who were staying,” while “the number … was 0.3 million and 0.5 million” mismatches a singular subject with two figures. The sentence beginning “With regards to” is incomplete, and “the number … in 2013 and 2014 … was 1.5 million” does not clearly express the intended figures. Articles and prepositions are also often missing, as in “staying on island.” Practise complete, direct sentences with accurate past-tense forms and clear subject–verb agreement.
