Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

You identify the overall rise in total visitors, correctly giving about 1 million in 2010 and 3.5 million in 2017. However, the response addresses the chart only partially: it ends mid-sentence (“2 million people were there to”) and gives little account of the island-staying figures or the changes across the middle years. The claim that cruise-ship visitors were “high in numbers” compared with island visitors is inaccurate for most of the period; island visitors were more numerous until 2016. The statement about a “dowfall” in island visitors is also too broad, as their numbers generally rose before fluctuating. The response is 128 words, below the required 150. Include a complete overview and compare both categories with key figures to develop the report.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

There is a basic paragraph structure: an introduction, an overview, and a paragraph about the two types of accommodation. The opening also establishes the time period and subject. However, progression is limited because the final paragraph does not develop a clear sequence of comparisons and ends abruptly, leaving the report incomplete. Linking is sparse, and phrases such as “as well as” do not clearly organise the contrast between the two visitor groups. The overview repeats the total increase without connecting it to the category trends. To improve, group the information logically—for example, describe the total trend first, then compare island and cruise-ship visitors over time—and use clear references and transitions between those points.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The response uses some relevant chart vocabulary, including “number of tourists,” “total number,” “rise,” and “million,” so the main topic is generally understandable. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate or awkward, such as “popularity of island,” “public stay on island,” and “extreme rise.” Spelling errors in “dramatice,” “observerd,” “comparision,” and “dowfall” are noticeable and reduce precision. “Cruiseship” is also not written as the standard two-word form, “cruise ship.” Aim for precise, neutral reporting language rather than unsupported explanations about popularity, and use terms such as “visitors staying on the island” and “increased steadily” to describe the data accurately.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more extended sentences, including “In 2010 number of visitors were one million and in 2017 there was…” However, the range is limited, and frequent errors affect clarity. Examples include missing articles (“Overall, graph”), incorrect agreement (“number of visitors were”), and inconsistent tense (“tourists stay” alongside past-time data). The phrase “people who visit the island of seven years” is also structurally unclear, while the final sentence is incomplete. Use the past tense consistently for the 2010–2017 figures, check singular/plural agreement, and make sure each sentence has a complete clause. Short, accurate comparisons would help establish control before attempting longer structures.
