Student answer (Band 5.5)
The line graph depicts the number tourists in million and compared their number based on their place of stay namely cruise ship and island between year 2010 and 2017.
Overall, there was a increment the number of travelers throughout the period but increase in visitors staying on cruise ship was significantly higher than visitors syaing on island. Eventhough, initially the number of visitors staying on island was higer than the visitors staying on cruise ship.
Ther total number of visitors was 1 million in 2010 out of which 0.3 million preferred to stay on cruise ship and 0.7 million preffered to stay on island. Over the course of 3 years, these number grew gradually to 0.5 million for visitors preferring cruise ship and 1.5 million for people preferring stay at island. Making the total of 2 million tourists for year 2013.
The number of travelers who stay on island remaind at 1.5 million from 2013 to 2017 but the number of visitors kept rising through out the period and in 2017 there were 2 million tourists who stayed on cruise ship. Hence, making the total number of visitors 3.5 million in 2017

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You provide a relevant overview, identifying the overall rise in visitor numbers and the stronger growth in cruise-ship visitors, and you support this with key figures for 2010, 2013 and 2017. Most reported values match the graph, allowing for approximation. However, the overview could capture the main pattern more fully: the island-stay figure rose to 1.5 million, then fluctuated slightly, rather than simply remaining unchanged from 2013 to 2017. The account also omits the total’s pause at 2.75 million in 2015–16 and gives limited comparison of the middle years. More precise coverage of these features would make the summary more complete and better developed.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction, an overview, and paragraphs reporting figures across the period. The progression from the starting point to 2013 and then 2017 is easy to follow, and phrases such as “Overall” and “Over the course of 3 years” help signal the structure. Some connections are less effective or mechanical, however. “Hence, making the total…” is a sentence fragment, while “Even though” introduces a contrast without completing a clear dependent clause. The final paragraph also combines the island trend, cruise-ship trend and total without fully clarifying their relationships. Use complete sentences and link each comparison directly to the relevant figures.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use relevant task vocabulary, including “total number of visitors,” “throughout the period,” and “preferred to stay,” so the main information is generally understandable. However, the range is limited and several word-choice, collocation and spelling problems reduce precision. For example, “a increment” is not a natural expression, “number tourists” is missing a linking word, and “visitors syaing” contains a spelling error. Repetition of “number of visitors” and “stay” also makes the report less flexible. Choose standard graph language such as “the figure for,” “rose,” and “remained stable,” and check spelling and collocations carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more complex forms, including the overview contrast beginning “Even though” and the time clause “Over the course of 3 years.” However, some sentence structures are faulty, and errors in articles, agreement and sentence completion are noticeable. Examples include “The line graph depicts the number tourists,” “there was a increment,” and “these number grew.” The clause “Hence, making the total number…” is incomplete, and “Even though” is not followed by a complete main clause. These errors do not prevent the reader from understanding the main trends, but they limit accuracy. Practise complete clause structures and check articles, singular/plural agreement and verb forms.
