Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features and make comparisons where relevant.
Student answer (Band 5.0)
The graph shows an inclining data all together where total number of tourists who travelled between [redacted phone] were 3.5 million. It clearly shows from that 2 million visitors stayed in cruise and 1.5 million stayed on Carribean island in 2017. If we compare tourists staying on cruise we can clearly see that from [redacted phone] it has shown an upward graph whilst it declined by 0.5 million tourists in [redacted phone] which gradually showed an increase in [redacted phone] by 0.5 million tourists again. In [redacted phone] it shows an increase of jus 0.25 million tourist where as the tourist who stayed on island shows increase of tourists by 0.25 million in 2011 ,2012 & 2013 followed by stagnant visitors in 2013,2014 & 2015. Later in year 2016 it declined by 0.25 million tourist which later increased by 0.25 million in 2017. If we compare both of them we can see tourist preferred staying on cruise than on islamd by 0.5 million.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You identify the overall rise and report the 2017 total and its two components accurately: 3.5 million overall, with 2 million on cruise ships and 1.5 million staying on the island. You also describe several changes in each category. However, the overview is brief and not fully clear, and the account does not consistently select the most important comparisons. For example, the total rises from 1 million in 2010 to 3.5 million in 2017, while cruise-ship visitors grow markedly and island stays fluctuate around 1.25–1.5 million. The final claim that tourists preferred cruises by 0.5 million is not true across the period; it applies only to 2017. A clearer overview and more accurate, selective comparisons would make the report more complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
The response follows a broadly understandable sequence: it introduces the overall trend, discusses cruise-ship visitors, then island visitors, and ends with a comparison. Time references such as “from 2010-2011” and “Later in year 2016” help readers follow the chronology. However, the whole report is presented as one paragraph, and the long sentences combine several years and trends, making the progression difficult to track. Connectors such as “whilst,” “where as,” and “followed by” are used mechanically or awkwardly, and the final comparison does not clearly connect to the full period. Separate the overview from the detailed figures, and use shorter sentences with clear links between related points.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use relevant vocabulary for describing trends, including “increase,” “declined,” “stagnant,” and “visitors,” so the main information is generally understandable. However, the range is limited and several expressions are unnatural or imprecise, such as “an inclining data all together,” “shown an upward graph,” and “preferred staying on cruise.” Spelling errors in “Carribean” and “islamd” also reduce accuracy. Some repetition of “tourists” and “increase” makes the report less precise. Choose standard chart language and check spelling: for example, describe figures as “the total number of visitors rose,” and refer to “visitors staying on cruise ships” rather than “staying on cruise.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt longer sentences with time clauses and comparisons, but complex structures are often faulty, and errors recur throughout. For example, “total number of tourists who travelled … were 3.5 million” has a subject–verb agreement problem, while “it has shown an upward graph” uses an unsuitable tense construction. The sentence beginning “If we compare tourists staying on cruise” becomes difficult to follow as several time periods are joined together. Articles and prepositions are also inconsistent, as in “in year 2016.” Use past simple consistently for the completed period, check singular and plural agreement, and divide multi-part sentences into shorter statements. This would make your trend descriptions easier to understand.
