Student answer (Band 6.0)
The graph below illustrates the number of tourists who visted a particular Caribbean island and their means of accomodation between 2010 and 2017.
Overall, it is observed that the the numbers of tourists sky rocketted by 2017. Visitors staying on cruise ships were lower than the individuls staying on island in 2010 but changes were seen by 2017.
Specifically, around 1 million travellers visited the island in 2010. It is observed that the total number of visitors significantly increased over the 7 years time period accounting for a total of 3.5 million tourists by 2017.
The amount of visitors staying on cruise ships were comparatively lower than the individuals residing on the island with over a half million visitors on island and less than half a million on cruise ships. The visitors staying on island increased gradually while vsitors staying on cruise ships faced a fluctuating rise by 2015 with a dentical number of almost a million. The people preferring cruise ships continued to rise and almost hit two million ny 2017 while visitors staying on island remained constant.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You identify the overall rise in total visitors, from about 1 million in 2010 to 3.5 million in 2017, and compare the two accommodation groups at the beginning and end of the period. These are relevant main features. However, some important details are underdeveloped or imprecise: the island-staying figure rose from about 0.75 million to 1.5 million, then dipped slightly in 2016, rather than simply remaining constant; and the cruise-ship figure fluctuated early before rising steadily to 2 million. The phrase “with a dentical number of almost a million” is unclear and does not accurately describe the 2015 comparison, when the figures were about 1.25 million and 1.5 million. More precise reporting of these changes would make the summary more complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction, an overview, and paragraphs giving figures and trends. The reader can follow the broad movement from the start to the end of the period. However, progression within the final paragraph is less controlled. The comparison beginning “The amount of visitors staying on cruise ships…” is followed by several trend statements, and “with a dentical number” makes the relationship between the two groups difficult to understand. Some linking is also repetitive, particularly the repeated use of “It is observed.” Use direct comparisons and clearer references—for example, distinguish the island-staying total from the cruise-ship total in each sentence—to make cohesion more natural and precise.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use a reasonable range of task-related vocabulary, including “visitors,” “residing,” “fluctuating,” and “remained constant,” and the main subject is generally clear. However, several spelling and word-choice errors reduce precision: “visted,” “accomodation,” “individuls,” and “vsitors” should be corrected, while “sky rocketted” is both misspelled and too informal for an academic report. “A dentical number” is not an appropriate expression and obscures the intended comparison. Some phrases are also awkward, such as “the amount of visitors” and “people preferring cruise ships.” Prefer accurate, neutral collocations such as “the number of visitors,” “cruise-ship passengers,” and “rose steadily.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and more complex sentences, and most of the main trends remain understandable. Some grammatical errors are present, particularly with agreement and sentence construction. For example, “The amount of visitors … were” has a singular subject with a plural verb, and “The visitors staying on island increased” needs an article before “island.” In “The visitors staying on island increased gradually while visitors staying on cruise ships faced…,” the comparison is not smoothly structured, and the later phrase “with a dentical number” does not form a clear grammatical relationship to the preceding clause. There is also an unnecessary repetition in “the the numbers.” Check subject–verb agreement, articles, and how clauses are joined, while retaining your attempts at varied sentence forms.
