Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
You identify the broad upward trend in total visitors and mention changes in both accommodation groups, so the response is relevant to the graph. However, several key figures and trends are misreported, which substantially weakens the summary. For example, cruise-ship visitors began at about 0.25 million, not 0.75 million, and rose to 2 million by 2017; they did not fluctuate around 1.5 million at the end. Island-staying visitors began at about 0.75 million and ended near 1.5 million, rather than starting at 0.25 million and finishing at 2 million. The overview also omits the total’s rise from 1 million to 3.5 million. Select the main trends accurately and distinguish the total from the two categories.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable sequence: an opening, an overview, and descriptions of the two visitor groups. This gives the reader some organisation, and phrases such as “from 2010 to 2017” help establish the time frame. However, the progression is weakened by unclear or contradictory comparisons, including the statements that cruise visitors “dipped below” island visitors and that island visitors later “surpass” cruise visitors. The overview is also separated awkwardly from the opening, and several long sentences run together without clear punctuation. Group the information into clear paragraphs, describe each series in chronological order, and use linking phrases only where they accurately show a comparison or change.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You attempt vocabulary relevant to describing trends, including “increased,” “steady increase,” “fluctuated,” “sharp hike,” and “surpassing.” This shows some awareness of the language needed for a graph report. However, the range is limited and several choices or spellings make the meaning harder to follow, such as “cruse,” “hikes,” “remained steadt,” and “highest number of visitors.” Some expressions are also imprecise: “visitors who lived at cruise ships” is not a natural way to describe tourists’ accommodation. Use accurate, conventional collocations such as “visitors staying on cruise ships,” “rose steadily,” and “reached a peak.” Careful spelling and more precise trend vocabulary would make the report clearer.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response attempts both simple statements and longer sentences with time clauses, for example, “From 2015 till 2017…” and “Though visitors staying on island started…”. However, control is inconsistent, and errors frequently make relationships between ideas difficult to interpret. Examples include missing or incorrect articles in “at particular island,” faulty verb forms in “a sharp hike shown,” and unclear tense and sentence construction in “started slow at 2010 with number of 0.25 million.” Punctuation is also unreliable, with sentences joined directly after full stops or commas. Practise accurate past-tense reporting and build shorter, complete sentences before adding subordinate clauses; check articles, verb forms, and sentence boundaries.
