Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You identify the overall rise in total visitors and report several relevant figures, including the cruise-ship total reaching 2 million in 2017 and island visitors standing at about 1.5 million. However, the overview is incomplete and sometimes unclear: “Also the visitors staying on island not a huge margin” does not explain the island series’ relatively stable pattern or compare it clearly with the cruise-ship trend. Some details are inaccurate or confusing. For example, cruise-ship visitors fell from 0.5 million in 2011 to 0.25 million in 2012, but “By the end of year” does not specify this, and the claim that total visitors increased “every year” overlooks the unchanged total between 2015 and 2016. Select the main trends and describe them precisely.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a basic structure, moving from an opening and overview to details about cruise-ship visitors, island visitors, and the total. This gives the reader some sense of organisation. However, progression is not consistently clear: the overview’s “Also” sentence is incomplete, and “Getting back to the details” and “Finally” provide only mechanical links rather than showing relationships between the data. The account also repeats general ideas such as gradual increase without consistently connecting them to specific years or comparisons. Grouping the two visitor categories together, then summarising the total, and using clear contrasts such as “whereas” or “in contrast” would make the sequence easier to follow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “visitors,” “accounted for,” “increased,” and “decreased,” so the main subject is generally understandable. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate or repetitive. “Population” is not appropriate for the number of tourists, and “the rate” is less precise than “the number” or “figure.” There are also noticeable spelling errors, including “sinificantly,” “islamd,” “cruis,” and “ahain,” which reduce clarity and control. Aim for precise chart language and vary verbs appropriately—for example, describe figures as rising, remaining stable, or reaching a peak rather than repeatedly saying “visitors” or “rate.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response communicates its general meaning, but grammatical errors are frequent and sometimes make relationships between ideas difficult to follow. Subject–verb agreement is inconsistent in “The graph illustrate” and “the number … has … increased,” while tense and sentence construction are faulty in “In 2011 the rate is little bit increased” and “Finally, total visitors in 2010 is accounted for.” Articles and prepositions are also often missing or incorrect, as in “on island” and “Between 2010 to 2017.” Most sentences use simple patterns, and attempts to combine ideas do not consistently produce accurate complex sentences. Practise forming complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, and check agreement, tense, articles, and prepositions.
