Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify the overall rise in total visitors and distinguish between cruise-ship and island stays, which gives the response a relevant overview. However, several key details are misreported, limiting how fully the graph is covered. The cruise-ship figure begins at about 0.25 million, not 0.7 million, and reaches 2 million in 2017, rather than 1.5 million. Island visitors start at about 0.75 million, rise to 1.5 million by 2013, then remain broadly stable; they do not fall in 2012 or reach 2 million. The total also rises to about 2.75 million in 2015 and stays level in 2016 before reaching 3.5 million. More accurate comparisons and a clearer account of these patterns would strengthen the report.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and separate paragraphs describing the total and the two visitor categories. This helps the reader follow the main topics, and phrases such as “Overall” and “On the other hand” signal relationships between ideas. However, progression within the descriptions is sometimes difficult to follow, particularly in the final sentence, where the island trend is described as rising, suddenly decreasing, and then increasing without clear year-by-year links. Some connections are also mechanical or unclear, such as “which is give information” and “in time between 2010 to 2017.” Organise each series in chronological order and use precise linking phrases to show when a figure rises, falls, or remains stable.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “visitors,” “total number,” “increased,” and “fluctuated,” and you attempt to describe trends rather than simply list figures. However, the range and control are limited, with repeated general words such as “increased” and several inaccurate or awkward choices. “Immigrants” is not appropriate for tourists, while “people who lived on island” changes the meaning of visitors staying there. Spelling errors such as “upwerd,” “unstaddy,” “dramatically,” and “respectivally” also make the report less polished. Choose precise terms for the categories and vary trend language only when it accurately describes the data; for example, the island figure is broadly stable after 2013 rather than steadily increasing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more extended sentences, including a contrast introduced by “On the other hand” and a sequence describing changes over time. However, control of sentence structure is inconsistent, and errors sometimes make relationships between ideas unclear. For example, “all graphs show upwerd trend in which one is give information” has an incomplete and confusing clause, while “The total number of immigrants was at 1 million which increased” needs clearer sentence construction. There are also problems with articles, agreement, and number forms, as in “on island” and “2.7 millions.” Aim for complete, direct sentences with a clear subject and verb, and use consistent past-tense forms when reporting the historical data.
