Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You identify the chart’s subject and include an overview, noting that cruise-ship visitors generally increased while island-staying figures fluctuated. You also report several key values, including the 2010 total and the 2017 cruise-ship figure and overall total. However, the overview is not fully accurate: the two visitor categories do not show a similar trend, since island visitors rise more gradually and then remain broadly stable, while cruise visitors increase sharply overall. Some details are unclear or incomplete, such as the cruise-ship fluctuations before 2014 and the island figure’s slight fall in 2016. A clearer comparison of the categories and the total’s rise would make the main features more fully developed and precise.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure, moving from an introduction and overview to details, and the time sequence is generally understandable. Paragraph breaks help separate the overview from the figures. However, progression within the body is uneven: the first detail paragraph jumps from 2011 to 2013, while the second begins with 2016 and then returns to the island trend from 2013 to 2015. Connectors such as “Initially,” “Then,” and “Secondly” are used mechanically, and “however” does not clearly link the contrasting trends in the overview. Some references, including “its” in “In total its 1 million,” are unclear. Grouping the data by category or by clear time periods would improve the flow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant chart vocabulary, including “increase,” “fluctured,” “remain same,” and “in total,” so the reader can usually identify the intended trends. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate or repetitive. Phrases such as “showes high trend,” “had flactured,” and “rose up to” are not natural ways to describe graph data; “fluctuated,” “reached a peak of,” or “rose to” would be more appropriate. Spelling errors such as “carribean,” “viositor,” and “begining” are noticeable and sometimes make reading less smooth. Aim to use a small set of precise trend verbs and check spelling carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including a contrast with “while” and a time clause beginning “After a year.” However, grammatical control is inconsistent, and errors sometimes make relationships between figures difficult to follow. For example, “The line graph depict” needs subject–verb agreement, while “visitors staying on island had 0.7 million” is missing an article and a clearer noun phrase. Verb forms are also faulty in “was remain same” and “showes increase trend.” Sentence boundaries and punctuation need attention: several sentences begin with lowercase “but,” and commas are placed awkwardly around phrases such as “staying on island.” Practise accurate basic clauses before adding more complex structures.
