Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You identify the chart’s subject and report several relevant figures, including cruise-ship visitors rising to 2 million in 2017 and the total reaching 3.5 million. You also note that island visitors level off around 1.5 million before a small dip and recovery. However, the overview is unclear and includes a major misreading: “visitors staying on cruiseship are more in every years” is not true, as island-based visitors outnumber cruise visitors until 2017. The total series is mentioned mainly at the end, so its steady overall rise and the plateau in 2015–16 are not clearly summarised. To strengthen the response, give a concise, accurate overview of the main contrasts, then select key figures to support it.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0

The response follows a broadly understandable order, moving from cruise-ship visitors to island visitors and then the total, and it uses time markers such as “in 2010,” “the next year,” and “in 2017.” However, the information is not arranged into clear paragraphs, and the overview is difficult to distinguish from the details. Repeated transitions (“the next year,” “moving toward,” “and the next years”) make the account mechanical, while some links are unclear—for example, “the numbers of visitors staying on cruise ship is increasing every year” follows a period when the figures fluctuate. Organise the response into an introduction, a clear overview, and two detail paragraphs, grouping related trends and using more precise links between changes.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

You use relevant chart vocabulary, including “visitors,” “increasing,” “decreasing,” “total numbers,” and “million,” so the reader can generally identify the subject of each sentence. However, the range is limited and several phrases are repetitive or imprecise, such as “the range is upward,” “the stop from 2 million,” and “the visitors are quantity increasing.” Spelling errors, including “visting,” “vistors,” “caribbean,” and “carribean,” also reduce accuracy. Some expressions, such as “enjoy vactions,” are not relevant to describing the data. Build a more precise set of trend phrases—such as “rose to,” “remained stable,” and “fell slightly”—and check spelling and collocations carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response attempts to describe changes over time and uses some longer sentences, but sentence structures are limited and errors occur frequently. For example, “The graph illustrates that the number … between the 2010 to 2017” has an incomplete construction and incorrect preposition, while “the numbers of tourists … is” shows subject–verb disagreement. Articles, plurals, and verb forms are also inconsistent in phrases such as “the next years 2013 to 2017 the numbers … is increasing” and “the last year 2017 3.5 million peoples are coming.” Punctuation is often missing or misplaced, creating run-on sentences. Practise accurate simple past forms for the historical data, and separate each trend into complete sentences before attempting more complex structures.
