Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You identify the main overall rise, reporting the total increasing from 1 million in 2010 to 3.5 million in 2017, and include useful comparisons between the two accommodation groups. Several figures are accurate, including island visitors reaching 1.5 million in 2013 and cruise-ship visitors reaching 2 million by 2017. The overview is relevant, but saying both groups “fluctuated throughout” is too broad: island stays were mostly stable after 2013, while cruise-ship numbers rose overall despite early variation. The comparison that cruise visitors surpassed island visitors in 2016 is also inaccurate; they were about equal then, and cruise visitors exceeded them in 2017. A more precise overview and clearer distinction between stable and rising trends would strengthen the report.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear basic structure: an introduction and overview are followed by paragraphs describing the total and the two visitor categories. Sequencing expressions such as “Firstly,” “Secondly,” and “In contrast” help signal the organisation, and the reader can generally follow the time sequence. However, the linking is sometimes mechanical, and the second body paragraph combines several trends in a long sequence without consistently clarifying which group is being discussed. For example, “the number of tourists fluctuated slightly in 2016” has an unclear reference. Grouping the island figures together and then the cruise-ship figures, with clearer references and fewer formulaic transitions, would make progression more controlled.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a reasonable range of task-related vocabulary, including “upward trend,” “remained,” “fluctuated,” and “surpassed,” which helps describe changes and comparisons. However, several choices are repetitive or unnatural, such as “visitors visiting,” “overall visitors,” and “reached same of number of tourists.” Some expressions also blur the meaning: “grew up considerably” is not a natural way to describe a figure, and “the peoples who stayed on ships” is imprecise. Aim for accurate collocations and concise phrasing, using terms such as “the total number of visitors,” “rose considerably,” and “visitors staying on cruise ships.” This would improve precision while retaining your useful range of trend vocabulary.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more extended sentence forms, including clauses linked with “while,” “and,” and “which,” so there is some structural variety. However, errors in agreement, verb forms, articles, and sentence construction are frequent enough to make parts of the report awkward. Examples include “the overall visitors … was,” “some of them prefer to stayed,” and “reached to 1.5 million”; these need forms such as “the total number … was,” “preferred to stay,” and “reached 1.5 million.” The final sentence also has a punctuation problem where “while” follows a full stop. Focus on accurate subject–verb agreement and consistent past-tense reporting, and break long sentences into clearer units.
