Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You identify the main overall rise in total visitors and distinguish the two accommodation groups, with relevant figures such as the total reaching 3.5 million in 2017 and cruise-ship visitors dipping in 2012 before rising. This gives the response a clear overview and covers the main series. However, some details are inaccurate or unclear: the cruise-ship figure in 2017 was about 2 million, not 1.5 million, and island visitors did not decrease in 2011; they remained at about 0.75 million. The island series also fluctuated only modestly, so describing it broadly as fluctuating overstates the pattern. More precise comparisons, especially noting that cruise-ship visitors drove much of the later growth, would make the key features more fully developed.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and two paragraphs reporting details. The progression from the overall pattern to the separate visitor categories is generally easy to follow, and linking phrases such as “Overall” and “Furthermore” help signal relationships. This is a coherent arrangement, though cohesion is sometimes mechanical or unclear. For example, “It also showed a marginal dip” has an uncertain reference, and “In addition to that” adds little to the comparison. The final sentence ends abruptly, without punctuation or a clear concluding comparison. To strengthen progression, group the figures by trend and use precise references such as “the island-staying figure” rather than “it.”

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of task-related vocabulary, including “peaked,” “significant increase,” “marginal dip,” and “fluctuating trend.” These choices help describe movement and scale, and the meaning is generally clear. However, some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or repetitive: “draws compares” is not a natural description of a graph, “people visiting at Caribbean island” is awkward, and “increased marginally by rise” is unclear. There are also spelling and spacing slips, including “continous,” “continously,” and “aslight.” Aim for more precise, natural reporting language and check spelling; for example, use “illustrates,” “visitors to the island,” and “rose slightly.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including contrast with “However” and a relative clause in “the visitors staying on cruise ship highlights…”. Most of the intended meaning can be understood, but some grammatical errors recur. The opening sentence has a faulty construction (“draws compares”), and articles and number agreement are inconsistent, as in “total number of tourist rose” and “the visitors staying on cruise ship highlights.” The phrase “from 2010 and 2017” also uses the wrong preposition, while the final sentence lacks a full stop. Improve control of articles, plural forms, subject–verb agreement, and sentence completion, then proofread each sentence for a clear grammatical structure.
